When England decided to begin the colonization of Australia, then known as New South Wales, it was deemed necessary to help bolster the number of voluntary colonists with prisoners and undesirables. But when you send all your prisoners to be colonists where do you send the prisoners who can’t function as colonists? Answer: Tasmania. One notable location was timber station/turned prison that had begun its service in 1830. This prison housed the the worst of the worst from all over Australia, repeat offenders who could not serve a purpose even in a penal colony full of convicts. Guests of the prison were subjected to draconian isolation treatments and back-breaking hard labor. It’s no mystery why a number of prisoners decided to resort to suicide as a means of escape. With this much torture and pain all concentrated into one area it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that this area is now known as one of Australia’s top most Haunted locations. On the evening on November 5th, 1975 Mike Rogers was making the return trip with his logging crew from their work site within the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. Rogers stopped the truck when they spotted a luminous object moving through the treetops that did not appear to be of Earthly origins. As the floating object moved toward the truck, one of the crew decided to try and get a closer look. Travis Walton left the vehicle and as he approached the craft he was struck by a blue light that hurled him to the ground with seemingly lethal force. Afraid for his life and the lives of those of the crew still in the truck, Rogers slammed the vehicle into drive and fled from site, thinking he had just been witness to his friend’s death. After an exhaustive search by police and volunteers of the area where they had encountered the UFO, no trace of Walton was found. 5 days later Walton’s Brother-in-law received a phone call, Travis had resurfaced in a town 30 miles from where he had last been seen and believed only a few hours had passed. The 70’s, a time of great social upheaval. Vietnam, Watergate, the equal rights movement all these events were challenging what had been considered to be traditional values. People were becoming dissatisfied with their lives and beginning to search for meaning in many unconventional places. Enter Terri Hoffman, in 1974 she founded the group known as Conscious Development of Body, Mind and Soul incorporated. Almost every human culture from around the world has stories of cities that are hidden beneath the ground. From the mythic city of Agartha said to lay at the center of the Earth or the shining city of Shambala that is rumored to be buried in the heart of the Himalayas. For most of history, these cities were though only to exist in myth and folklore. During the 1960’s the United States and its allies believed they were engaged in a struggle for the very existence of the free world. The Soviet Union seemed to be spreading its influence all across the Asian continent and into parts of Western Europe, and seemed poised to take the leap across the Atlantic. In the fall of 1973, friends Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker set out for a relaxing day of fishing. Little did they know, that it was them who would be captured and released that day. The two men claimed to have been victims of an alien abduction. Experiencing a number of classic events of which we now associate with close encounters of the fourth kind. Total body paralysis, a strange examination, and telepathic communication with the beings aboard the craft on which they were taken. This event took place during the early days of Ufology and quite a bit before alien abduction stories had become mainstream. Hickson, by his own request, took a polygraph to attest to the truthfulness of his and Parker’s claims. Many abduction cases seem to share similar symptoms with waking dreams or sleep paralysis. In December of 1941 the Second World War had officially spilled across the Pacific and reached the US. Following the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the citizens of the US were set on edge by the fear of a Japanese attack on the West Coast of the US mainland. Some would say that fear was affirmed when a secret Japanese submarine surfaced and fired on the city of Ellwood, California on February 23, 1942. The very next night the residents of Los Angeles were witness to what, some would say, was the first ever engagement of a UFO by human military forces. Following a night filled with air raid sirens, spotlights sweeping the night sky, and Anti-Aircraft fire from American ground forces the US military was at a loss as to what had truly been seen that night. Two official reports were released, one implied that it was an enemy spy plane, the other, claiming it was a weather balloon. Multiple witnesses reported that something had been caught in the spotlights above LA that night, something that had seemed unaffected as it weathered the formidable night time barrage.
