Contained within the Tibetan Book of the Dead, is a description of a realm the spans between death and one’s rebirth. Bardo, as it is named, is outlined as a state of existence where consciousness is free of the physical body.  According to this philosophy, it is within this state the consciousness is unchained and free to stretch out and experience the truest sense of reality. In May of 1951, 60 miles north of present-day Seoul, South Korea, a U.S. Army regiment was preparing an artillery bombardment when a strange glowing object descended towards them from a nearby mountain. The craft approached close enough that a private was able to take aim and fire armor-piercing rounds and seemingly strike the object eliciting a metallic sound. Suddenly, the craft began to emit a beam of light that swept across the positions of the terrified service members. Some reported feeling a kind of burning sensation throughout their body as the light covered them. The craft then shot off at a 45-degree angle leaving the soldiers confused and fearing they had seen some kind of new Soviet superweapon. Within days, the men started reporting symptoms that seemed to resemble radiation sickness. In cultures across Asia, there are tales of semi-divine beings who are depicted as having both human and serpent-like characteristics. In Aztec culture, the heart was believed to be a fragment of the sun’s heat. A small fraction of their Sun God’s power that waged a constant battle against the forces of chaos and darkness. Minus 128.56 degrees Fahrenheit was the coldest day to be recorded in human history in Vostok, Antarctica. The icy continent can boast of the lowest temperatures, driest valley, and highest winds on average of any location on Earth. Beginning in the year 250 A.D. the Mayan culture of Central America reached new heights of civilization. Marked by outstanding advancements in art, science, and architecture this period is referred to as the Mayan classic period. Also during this time, modern scientists have identified a widespread cultural practice of cranial deformation whose origins seemed to be deeply rooted in humanity’s past. From the many examples of art dated to this period, archaeologists have been able to form theories that link this practice within the Mayan civilization to a complex social hierarchy that incorporated two very different techniques for the shaping of their skulls. Between 1972 and 1973, in modern-day Syria, archaeologists began an excavation of what they originally thought was an ancient farming village located in the Euphrates valley in an area known as Tell Abu Hureyra. The scientists were surprised to discover that there was another settlement from the Paleolithic era buried underneath the remains of the later settlement. Archaeologists were able to determine that the earlier village had been a society of hunter-gatherers who had perhaps settled in the valley more than 12,000 years ago. Around that same time period is when scientists have studied and determined there had been a dramatic climate shift that actually seemed to halt the Earth’s exit from its last Ice Age. Even more fascinating, is that a new study of the soil and artifacts found at Abu Hureyra, revealed the settlement had been obliterated by a fragment of a comet. In 1952 The United States Air Force began to experience an unprecedented build-up of reports of sightings of unidentified aerial phenomenon. Project Blue Book had been tasked to investigate these sightings which included events like the Washington flap. These sightings had become such a large concern the Director of Central Intelligence, General Walter Bedell Smith, issued a memo voicing his worries these events could be seen as some kind of psychological warfare and perhaps begin a widespread panic.
