Reflections from the Quran

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the reflections one can obtain from the Blessed Qur'an. The message of Islam is not to impress people though that is what is generally expected and satisfies one’s intellectual curiosity. But it is actually the other way around. If one looks at the Qur'an from the point of anything else other than the point of revelation, then there can be some disadvantages such as: One starts from Bani Israel. The Prophet ﷺ did not know how to read and write. So how could he pass on knowledge of the religion of Allah to us? Islam has answers to all our questions, the condition being that we search for them. Our character as a Muslim is defined by the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. Listen intently to unravel the answers to many doubts and queries one may have had about our Shariah.

Teaching Islam To Our Children

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan gives an elaborate and explicit lecture on the need of the hour - Teaching Islam to our children. Before worrying about our kids, we have to worry about what we are like as parents. Our children have Islam built into themselves as their religion. It’s a very fundamental aspect of our Deen.  The success the Muslims have had in raising their children relatively has been great but is not that praiseworthy as yet.  First of all our mentality has to change. If the children don't see in us the right definition of success, our personality, our conversations, then we cannot expect them to have the right definition of success for their life.  When the Prophets AS were teaching Deen, they were teaching everybody Deen. But when Allah SWT talks about children learning Islam and the Qur’an, talks about children learning, children receiving advice, it’s from the parents. Whenever Allah talks about children getting guidance in the Qur’an, it’s always from parents.  May Allah SWT make us the people of the Qur’an, and instill within us the ability to instill that to our children, have an honest, direct, open conversation with your children, and seek answers from Allah’s book.

Why Aren't You Grateful?

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the need to fully comprehend the concept and benefits of being grateful to Allah at all times. He reflects upon Surah Al Ibrahim of the Noble Qur'an. Allah has reminded us to be conscious of Allah at all times as the blessings of Allah can never be fully enumerated. One of the purposes of our existence is the purpose of being forever grateful to Allah SWT. This is a lesson Allah gives us in the Surah. Musa AS was taught to give [this lesson] to his people so they could come out of darkness to light. And then this message is so important that Allah put it as a teaching for the Messenger himself. Hence, it is paramount that we become truly, sincerely grateful to Allah SWT. And as a result of our gratitude, Allah will increase us in the good things and in the guidance and in the blessings that we enjoy in this world.  Rewards: The Pleasure of Allah will be upon us. Allah will lift the punishment from us. Allah gives you more if you are thankful to Allah.

The Man OF Two Gardens

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the story of the man of two gardens which is mentioned in Surah Kahf. Through this story, Allah gives us the parable of this world with the Akhirah. The story gives us the lesson that the ultimate world is the hereafter. This story is about the fitnah of the pleasures of this world which caused the man with two gardens to be arrogant and undeterred by the presence of the actual Jannah in the Hereafter. The man falsely believed that all his wealth was his effort and good luck and that he was better than his friend.  The faithful said that he was honored that his Creator and his Sustainer was Allah.he also admonished his friend for being proud and haughty and glorifying the life of this world, while he glorified his belief, faith, and monotheism. The faithless man happiness was short-lived as Allah had commanded for his green gardens and his arrogance and stupidity was realized by him to the fullest on seeing a barren and annihilated land in the place of his fruitful gardens of which he was so proud once. This horrific sight made him comprehend his great mistake and he ultimately realized that the protection, guardianship, and Power belong to Allah, the Lord Who is the Truth Himself. Allah says that his arrogance and delusion is what brought him down and the destruction of the garden is the ultimate proof of that. Because of his belief that his wealth would remain in continuity, he remained ignorant and so involved in this world that he made the mistake of even assuming that he would get even something better in the actual Jannah too since Allah has been happy with him.  But he is humbled by his friend who reminds him of the feebleness of this creation and how temporary it is. He also admonishes him for indulging in Shirk by taking credit for his garden. Rather it was Allah alone who could give the creation whatever he chose to give.  The story of the man with two gardens imbibes in us such lessons that should make us obey Allah and refrain us from indulging in sins. These verses talk about the baseless utterances of the faithless, proud, and conceited rich man of the gardens and also the speech of his faithful companion. It deserves a fair and intent listen.

Levels of Faith

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with some of the teachings we gather from Surah Taghabun. There is a very particular purpose for the revelation of this Surah and this is important to understand when we study the Quran or try to benefit from the Quran, what context or what background is Allah giving this speech because every Surah is the speech of Allah. So it is very relevant for us to know when was the speech was given, who was the speech given to, what occasion was the speech given at and what made him say what he said.  In this Surah,  Allah basically says to the Muslim community that there is a mix of people who made a lot of sacrifices and there are people that just came into the religion. Some of them understood really well, some of them really not that well, some of them really don’t have very good intentions for being Muslim. In this Surah, Allah talks to the entire Muslim community, i.e, the strong believer, the weak believer, the mature believer, the fresh believer, and even the corrupt ones. This Surah the Surah of fruits - the benefits of faith. The first half of this Surah is the summary of our faith, the practical summary of our faith and the next half of the Surah deals with the advantages of being a believer and what good comes in our life if one is a believer.  Allah describes and summarizes one of the most common reasons people refuse to accept guidance from Allah is that because they don’t see that they are submitting to GOD they say why there is a messenger in between? They say that they don’t need a messenger in between and Allah says that is the very source of arrogance. Iblis was not asked to make Sajda to Allah, he was asked to make Sajdah to Adam AS because it was the test of arrogance. He didn’t directly show arrogance to Allah, he actually showed arrogance to Adam AS and that was his undoing. Hence, it is essential that we keep away from pride and arrogance in our dealings in our lives and submit with utmost humility to the Divine Power of Allah. This shall be the ultimate depiction of faith.

Never Give Up Hope

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on the actions that we adopt after a sin has been committed. The first thing is when we sin is that we’re disappointed with ourselves. That’s a matter of concern. It’s not something bad to be disappointed in oneself and to be sad about our sin. It’s actually a gift from Allah because it depicts the presence of a still intact conscience.  We should realize that Allah knows our sins and He has forgiven people that have crimes far more than us in the past. No matter how big a sin is, there should be a parable even about smaller sins and how they were sensitive to the smaller sins. We must know that no matter how big our sin is, Allah’s Mercy is still bigger. Our sin is not more powerful than we are and our sin doesn’t have control of us. Rather it is we who are in control.  How do we overcome this sense of hopelessness when it devours us? We must pray to Allah to open up our hearts and never allow us to lose hope in Allah and make us of those who become a source of hope for others. We should pray that Allah gives us an immense amount of Barakah to our genuine expectations of Him and give all of us the best in this life and the best in the next life.
