Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 29
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into Ayat 83 of Surah Al Baqarah in this amazing and mesmerizing lecture.
Ayah 83 talks about the Covenant that Allah took from the Children of Israel. They had promised that they will abide by those commands but they failed to do so and they intentionally and knowingly turned away from all of that.
Allah SWT had commanded them to worship Him and to associate none with Him in worship, just as He has commanded all of His creatures. This is the highest and most important right - Allah’s right to be worshipped alone without partners. Then comes the right of the parents. Then comes the rights of the relatives. Next, come the rights of the orphans who have no fathers to fend for them, and the Miskeen (the poor). This includes everyone who is weak and dependent.
Allah SWT also commanded that do Ehsaan to them. Ehsaan includes financial help, mentoring, helpful advice, and any other deeds of goodness.
Allah SWT also commands us to say good words to people, after He commanded them to be kind to them. He then emphasized the command to worship Him and the command to do good, ordaining the prayer and the Zakah.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 28
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into Ayat 88 and describes one of the significant crimes done by the Israelites with regards to the Words of Allah.
Allah SWT describes the insolence of the Children of Israel and their rebellion, defiance, and arrogance towards the Prophets AS. They were given the Tawrat that in which they distorted its meanings and defied its commands.
A number of Prophets were sent to the Children of Israel such as Prophets Musa, Haroon, Dhul-Kifl, Ilyas, Al-Yasah, Dawood, Suleiman, Uzair, Yunus, Zakaria, Yahya and Isa AS. Isa AS was the last Prophet to be sent to the Children of Israel. He was sent with miracles such as bringing the dead back to life, form the shape of birds from clay and blow life into them, heal the sick and foretell the Unseen. Allah SWT also aided him with Jibreel AS.
Yet, the Children of Israel became more defiant and envious of him. Hence, they treated the Prophets in the worst manner, rejecting some of them and killing some of them. All of this occurred because the Prophets used to command the Jews with what differed from their desires and opinions.
In Ayat number 88, “And they say, ‘Our heart is Ghulf,” meaning they are screened, covered or there is a stamp on them that they don’t comprehend.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 27
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares some reflections and lessons from the Ayats of Surah Al Baqarah.
A few groups of people that need to be given due attention in terms of education of Islam and this will ensure every other group will be covered:
Women
Youth
How do we empower them in the light of Deen? Listen intently to fully fathom the necessity of this.
A nation becomes weak when the people distance themselves from the Book of Allah and this means that they seek help on all the Ayats through scholars alone. This is our biggest undoing and we should be wary of this and seek to make amends to the fullest potential.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 26
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares some insight on Ayats which divulge why Musa AS tells to slaughter a cow. There was a murder that was not being taken the responsibility of. So Allah solves this problem with a miracle that is meant to be listened to intently.
The dead boy's other relatives came to the Prophet Musa AS and asked his help in tracing the boy's murderer. Musa AS instructed them to slaughter a cow, remove its tongue and place it on the corpse. This would reveal the murderer, he told them. They accused Musa AS of joking with them.
Allah the Almighty narrated: And (remember) when Musa said to his people: "Verily, Allah commands you that you slaughter a cow.
They said: "Do you make fun of us?"
He said: "I take Allah's Refuge from being among AlJahileen (the ignorants or the foolish)."
They said: "Call upon your Lord for us that He may make plain to us what it is!"
He said: "He says, 'Verily, it is a cow neither too old nor too young, but (it is) between the two conditions; so do what you are commanded."
They said: "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us its color."
He said: "He says, 'It is a yellow cow bright in its color, pleasing to the beholders.
They said: "Call upon your Lord for us to make plain to us what it is. Verily to us all cows are alike, and surely, if Allah wills, we will be guided."
He (Musa) said: "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to till the soil nor water the fields, sound, having no other color except bright yellow.
They said: "Now you have brought the truth." So they slaughtered it though they were near to not doing it.
And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into a dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding. So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)."
Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His Ayat - proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations - so that we may understand.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 25
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into an explicit understanding of a brief account of the history of the Jews from the 5th passage of this magnificent Surah and also the Ustadh highlights one of these stories at length in Surah Al Baqarah.
Allah SWT had chosen one day of the week for the Children of Israel to do nothing other than worshiping Him. The Children of Israel, who were after the paltry riches of this world, breached the sanctity of this day (Sabbath). The Sabbath day was a test for them. As a punishment for what they had done, Allah SWT changed them from humans into monkeys.
Allah SWT says, “So We made this punishment an example…” meaning for the people of the village who violated the sanctity of the Sabbath and for the other villages. They were an example for those who lived during their time as well as a reminder for those to come, by preserving their story. “And a lesson for the Muttaqeen (the pious/Allah-conscious).” It means the torture, torment, and punishment that this village suffered as a result of indulging in Allah’s prohibitions and the deceitful ways that were adopted by them.
Hence, those who have Taqwa should be aware of their evil behavior, so that what occurred to this village does not befall them as well.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 24
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into Ayat number 62 from Surah Al Baqarah that deals with the Banu Israelites killing the Prophets and the truth behind this.
Allah SWT stated that the earlier nations who were righteous and obedient received the rewards for their good deeds. This shall be the case, until the Day of Judgment. Therefore, whoever follows the Prophet ﷺ shall acquire eternal happiness.
By revealing this ayah, Allah SWT clarifies the misconception that a person will enter Jannah solely based on their beliefs or actions. The correct belief (belief in the Oneness of Allah SWT) followed with the righteous actions (done as per the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ) will lead us to Jannah. Just because we are Muslims, we are not given Jannah. We must perform righteous deeds as taught by the Prophet ﷺ. A person who does not believe in Allah SWT will have all his deeds rejected.

Ramadan 2016 - Surat al-Baqarah - Day 23
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into Ayat number 60 from the magnificent Surah Al Baqarah.
Prophet Musa AS was extremely kind and compassionate towards his people. His nation, however, did not respond with the same behavior. They kept disobeying the instructions of Allah SWT and demanded one thing after another. But Allah SWT was still Merciful towards them. He sheltered them with the clouds and provided food from the heavens. Yet, they were ungrateful.
Upon his people’s request, Prophet Musa AS supplicated to Allah SWT for water. Allah SWT instructed him to strike his staff on a stone and water would come. Prophet Musa AS followed the instructions and twelve springs burst out.
Allah SWT says, “Eat and drink from the provision of Allah…,” we should know how to fulfill our needs from the permissible and pure provision that Allah SWT has provided for us. We should be content with what we have been blessed with and not be jealous of what others have. we should ask Allah SWT to bless us from His Unlimited Bounty.
