Nelly Lin & Juno Lee: Destigmatizing ADHD and mental health

Episode 38 with Nelly Lin & Juno Lee."If I'm interested in something, I become the 'go to' expert on that topic within a week or two." — Nelly"My family thought I was the one with no issues, but it's because I spent so much of my childhood hiding my struggles." — JunoThis is the first time I interview two women at once, but it felt fitting since they are the co-hosts of one of my absolute favorite ADHD podcasts, Two Addys and a Coffee, Please. Nelly & Juno are two Asian American women who have been friends for over a decade and struggled with undiagnosed ADHD for the majority of their lives. After many conversations on their shared struggles and their subsequent ADHD diagnoses, they were inspired to create a podcast to share their authentic stories about anxiety, ADHD, bipolar, and a host of other topics.Listening to their podcast is an emotional rollercoaster and I always come away so fired up and inspired. They are so articulate, and they oscillate between intense topics like burnout within the Asian American community, the myth of the model minority, anti-Asian hate crimes, hyper sexualization of Asian women, and their work life, relationships and their amazing friendship with the speed and agility of two 20-something women with ADHD, dropping F-bombs and giggling the whole time.We talk about their diagnosis journeys and what it’s like to talk so openly about so many taboo topics and try to normalize how our society views mental health, especially within the Asian American community.Website: twoaddys.comInstagram: @twoaddys - - - - -Finally ... you've found your people! Eir Atla: Herbs for ADHD and the joys of being a nomad

Episode 35 with Eir Atla."I kept wondering: Is everyone else struggling with this, or is it just a 'me thing'?"Eir spent 15 years as a nurse, and about 10 years ago she got more involved in herbs when she was experiencing a health problem that wasn’t being properly managed with modern medicine. Herbs helped her tremendously during that time, and since then she has completed three degrees in herbalism and now helps other women who struggle with health issues such as endometriosis, fibromyalgia, PCOS, IBS and of course ADHD.Eir and I also talk all about what it was like to have undiagnosed ADHD while in such a stressful job like nursing, and I grill her all about how she and he husband decided to chuck it all and move into a camper to live a nomadic life with their children, their dogs and even a parrot in tow. Eir is a font of information when it comes to herbs and ADHD, so I would suggest you get a pen and paper handy for this episode. Anna Lopez: Do we need a medical diagnosis?

Episode 29 with Anna Lopez.“I really want patients to be able to advocate and push for what they deserve as a patient. You deserve good care. You deserve answers. You deserve to bring up questions and not be thought that you're stupid for asking these questions or thinking that you might have something.”Anna is a psychiatric physician assistant with a Master's Degree in Counseling and she would marry psychology if she could. As a new PA, she came across adult after adult who had mental health struggles and little community supports. She felt unprepared by her graduate school training to address the mental health needs of her clients. She soon realized she wanted to go back to school for mental health counseling. While in grad school for the second time, she made a specialty switch from pediatric emergency medicine to adult psychiatry. She found her niche studying and helping those with mental illness and other psychiatric disorders. She especially loves talking about and working with trauma, attachment, and ADHD. Anna noticed that as an adult she always felt “unanchored” and at age 33 she finally got an ADHD diagnosis which has been empowering for her. She lives in Austin, TX with her two little handsome boys. She would live off chai lattes if she could and is true crime obsessed.
