MEM Cast

As junior doctors we encounter patients with acute exacerbation of COPD in ward on a daily basis. Dr Omid Khan, specialty registrar of  Acute Medicine, will guide us the management plan of acute exacerbation of COPD  from admission to discharge. This podcast will not only help us to manage the patients more confidently, but also prepare us for MRCP examination.

We are joined by Dr Patrick Davey, Cardiology Consultant, once again this week. We are going to discuss how to diagnose Aortic dissection, one of the most feared medical emergencies. Essential listening for on calls, what to do from a medical point of view if you encounter this rare condition and how to get them to the right team under the cardiovascular surgeons. 

We continue with the genetics theme this week as Dr Rachel Harrison and Dr Claire Searle (consultant geneticists at NUH) talk us through some of the hereditary cancers and the importance of taking a thorough family history.

We welcome Dr Nora Shannon, a consultant geneticist based at Nottingham University Hospitals for this weeks episode of MEMcast. We will discuss the diagnostic criteria for Marfan syndrome, and important follow-up practices to monitor for complications.
