Ground Puck Seahawks Podcast: Signature win for Mike Macdonald

Tim Booth, Seattle Times and Curtis Crabtree, FOX 13 join Jason “Puck” Puckett for the Ground Puck Seahawks Podcast brought to you by Georgetown Brewery. All three agree that was clearly the best win of the season and one of the best wins for the Seahawks in the last several years. The defense was no doubt the story from the game, but the performance of Geno Smith, especially on the final drive was quintessential the “Geno Smith Roller Coaster” experience! Offensive line looked better with Abe Lucas back and Olu Oluwatimi playing center. However, as the three discussed, the running game is still very much an issue.  Devon Witherspoon was everywhere and just showed why he’s such an unbelievable weapon for Macdonald.  The play of Tyrice Knight and Ernest Jones was phenomenal and illustrated why a move at linebacker was necessary. All of sudden the Seahawks have a legitimate shot to claim first place in the division next week.  Sports are dumb and terrific at the same time.

What will they do on the TV side of things?Puck is worried about the Cougs game against New Mexico and Jim is starting to share those concerns.  They welcome Lofa Tatupu to the show to talk about the Seahawks game against the 49ers and how the Seahawks could possibly pull off the upset.  Lofa details his business ventures with Savage Brewery and 1937 Cannabis Farms. Lofa said he was surprised that the Seahawks moved on from their linebackers but understands the decision. Lofa sees a lack of physicality and play making ability from that group.  Lofa is also surprised by the sloppiness and undisciplined football from the players and the coaches.  As they turn their attention to the 49ers, the biggest question is how do you stop Christian McCaffrey? it will take the whole defense to focus and gang tackle, something as Lofa points out that they have been bad at this season. PuckSports handicapperTroyWins.com joins the boys to discuss the upcoming football weekend. Troy gives his “Lock of the Week” and all three introduce a new segment, “Dog of the Week.”  Each picked an underdog and will keep tally for the rest of the season.  They also discussed Friday’s fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Chris Egan of KING 5 joined Jason “Puck” Puckett to wrap up the Friday show.  Egan and Puck talked about the greatest sports broadcasters in Seattle history with the news of Dave Sims leaving for New York. Egan chastised Puck and Cougar fans for always focusing in on the Huskies. He also details his love for $150 turkeys and why does he keep buying them?Friday marks the start of the 16-team high school football playoffs and Egan details his KING 5 “Big Game of the Week” featuring Decatur High School. They also promote their high school playoff preview show that featured them and Todd Milles of ScoreBookLiveWA and Jon Manley of the Tacoma News-Tribune. Lastly, “Hey, What the Puck!?”  Puck can’t wait to watch Mike Tyson destroy Jake Paul in their fight on Netflix.  Puck wants the younger generation to get a glimpse of how dominant of a fighter that Tyson was.

Puck reacts to that and the report that the Mariners are interested in bringing back Justin Turner. Mike Garafolo, NFL Network, joins Jason “Puck” Puckett for his weekly conversation.  Mike has pulled off on the side of the road as he is traveling to Philly to cover Thursday night football between the Eagles and the Commanders.  Puck asked Mike a hypothetical question about whether or not Seahawks fans would switch Mike Macdonald and Ryan Grubb for Dan Quinn and Kliff Kingsbury…but, Puck says you have to add Jayden Daniels!   That question leads to the discussion with the Bears and Caleb Williams. Who will be the next coach of the Bears?  They obviously have to hire an offensive minded coach. Would Lincoln Riley of USC be the perfect fit? What is wrong with the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones?   Also, Mike and Puck would be thrilled to see Deion Sanders land with the Cowboys…Amazing theater! Finally, Puck asks Mike, what is wrong with his Seahawks and what is going on with John Schneider?  Is he equipped to truly run this thing?Michael Shawn-Dugar, The Athletic. @MikeDugar. Co-Host of “Seahawks-Man-2-Man Podcast” joined Jason “Puck” Puckett from the “Opponent Preview.” Mike and Puck discussed the offseason by Seahawks GM John Schneider.  How much of it was a failure and do they have enough resources to fix the problem? Why does the organization have an issue with drafting offensive lineman?  Is it a philosophical problem or coaching issue?  If the team continues to lose would it be better for them to lose out to raise their draft position or finish strong so they know the switch they made with the head coach was the right move?Should the Seahawks consider trading D.K. Metcalf and consider moving on from Geno Smith in the offseason? Finally, Puck wraps up with, “Hey, What the Puck!?” Lebron James is not human and is a cyborg! Appreciate what he is doing at his age. You’ll never see it again.

Ryan Divish Show: Cal Raleigh robbed. Third base problem.

Ryan Divish, Seattle Times, joins the show for his “Cold Stove” M’s offseason chatter with Jason “Puck” Puckett. Divish is once again substitute teaching at his former high school in Havre, Montana.  They open up discussing why catcher Cal Raleigh should have won the Silver Slugger Award over Salvador Perez.   The conversation then turns to their offseason look at the third base position. Currently the only internal option to play third base is Josh Rojas.  Ryan thinks they’ll bring Rojas back but he won’t primarily be the third baseman and that they will have to find another option there, most likely via a trade.  Ryan believes you could have a situation where Rojas and Dylan Moore will platoon at second base. Ryan also gets into the teams desire to bring Justin Turner back and their preference to trade Luis Castillo in the offseason. And, Divish contemplated the idea that Puck brought up about trading for Phillis third baseman Alec Bohm. Would that be a good fit for the M’s?
