Lives Of The Sahaba 45 - Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed - PT 02

In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges more details on the military genius that was Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA, also known as Sword of Allah (Saifullah) and his contribution in the major battles. Another controversy relating to Khalid RA that is highlighted that happened after the death of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during the time of Abu Bakr As Siddiq RA. This is in connection with the killing of Maalik ibn Nuwayrah and the subsequent marriage to his wife, Layla . The tactics used by Khalid RA showcasing his military acumen during various battles fought under him, for instance, sending his people to the land which was to be conquered and gather details about the layout of the land so that he would have a better understanding on how to station his troops, are divulged into and make for an interesting listen. The next topic that is touched base on is the Battle of Yarmouk that took place under the leadership of Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA although Abu Ubaidah RA was the chieftain. Khalid RA had been demoted from his leadership domain after the death of Abu Bakr RA and the succession of Umar Ibn Al Khattab RA. This battle was magnanimous in its stature and showcased the military prowess of Khalid RA to its maximum potential and it resulted in the attainment of more than 30% of the land under the Byzantine empire. On his deathbed, Khalid Al-Walid’s old friend visited him which is when Khalid began to show his battle scars to him. Khalid then questioned his friend, “All of these scars of wounds and yet I am not dead from the battlefield. Why could I not have died in battle?” Khalid’s friend then replied, “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named you Saifullah, Sword of Allah, he predetermined that you would not fall in battle. If you had been killed by an unbeliever it would have meant that Allah’s sword had been broken by an enemy of Allah; and that could never be.” Listen intently as we witness the greatness of this exemplary warrior, Khalid Ibn Al Waleed RA.

Lives Of The Sahaba 44 - Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed - PT 01

This video takes us on an enlightening journey highlighting the biography, lineage and family of Khalid ibn al-Waleed ibn al-Mughirah of Banu Makhzum tribe . Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah who was the father of Khalid ibn al-Waleed, was a renowned poet and amongst the richest people in Makkah. He is also credited with the name - Waheed because of his magnanimous act of paying the expenses for the replacement of the Ka'ba every alternate year. In spite of all these positive traits, he had no respect and regard for the religion of Islam and always remained arrogant. He had also challenged the decision of sending the Quran to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in spite of he being the most influential member of the Quraysh. Allah had then revealed verses from Surah Zukhruf [31:32] that answered his allegation -  And they said: “Why is not this Quran sent down to some great man [in terms of dignity and wealth] of the two towns (Mecca and Taif)?” Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of your Lord [regarding the Divine appointment of Muhammad to prophethood]? It is We Who portion out [between them] their livelihood in this world [let alone the exalted rank of prophethood] and We raised some of them above others in ranks so that some may employ others in their work. But the Mercy of your Lord is better than what they amass. More such details are divulged in various parts of the video regarding the father of Khalid Ibn Waleed. We also gather valuable information of the skills of Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed RA and how he was blessed to have been given elite training in matters of war. He had fought major battles alongside the Prophet ﷺ except Battle of Badr (reasons disclosed in this video). The Battle of the Trench was the last of Khalid's battles. A controversy of sorts that transpired during the time of the Prophet ﷺ (when Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed had only basic knowledge of the Fiqh of warfare) was when Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed was sent to invite the Banu Jadhimah tribe to Islam. A misunderstanding occurred wherein Khalid RA mistook the words sab’ana ( Sabians) to mean that the tribe had become Sabians when in reality, they were reaffirming their acceptance of Islam. This resulted in Khalid imprisoning them and some even getting executed. It was not before long that he was stopped by Abdur Rahman bin Awf and this matter was brought to the jurisdiction of Prophet ﷺ. He was very sad because of Khalid’s actions and after having paid the blood money to the families to compensate the unnecessary killing of the converts, said repeatedly by raising his hands to Allah SWT - "O God, I am innocent of what Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed has done!" Do listen intently and witness firsthand what an exemplary warrior Khalid Ibn Al-Waleed was!

Giving Thanks And Being Grateful To Allah

Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi implores us to fully comprehend the concept and benefits of being grateful to Allah at all times.  Allah has reminded us to be conscious of Allah at all times as the blessings of Allah can never be fully enumerated. One of the purposes of our existence is the purpose of being forever grateful to Allah SWT. The concepts of Shukr and Kufr are explicitly explained for us to fully comprehend. Shukr is at the top of the pyramid of Iman. The greatest ingratitude is to turn away from Allah and that is the greatest Kufr. Hence, Shukr and Kufr are antonyms of each other. How do we do Shukr? There are a number of pillars in this :  Maintaining humility. Shukr necessitates humility. To act upon the blessings in a manner befitting to please Allah. To mention the blessings of Allah via humility and the right audience to share your blessings. Rewards: The Pleasure of Allah will be upon us. Allah will lift the punishment from us. Allah gives you more if you are thankful to Allah.

Lives Of The Sahaba 43 - Saeed Ibn Zayd

In this video, Shaykh Yasir divulges numerous details about the life and times of Saeed Ibn Zayd RA. Saeed ibn Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl RA was the son of an excellent individual named Zaid ibn Amr ibn Nufayl. He was the nephew of Al Khattab, the father of Umar RA.The reason for the respect that is binding upon him is his absolute detest for idolatry and his inability to fathom the reason for the irrelevant customs and traditions that were being followed by the Quraysh. Once, while leaning against the Kabah, it is reported that Zaid Ibn Amr shouted:"O people of Quraysh! It is God Who has created the sheep. He it is Who has sent down rain from the skies of which they drink and He has caused fodder to grow from the earth with which they are fed. Then even so you slaughter them in names other than His. Indeed, I see that you are an ignorant folk." Saeed ibn Zaid RA, hence, without an iota of doubt, had the roots of his father deeply embedded into him and it came as no surprise when he accepted Islam wholeheartedly. Said ibn Zayd RA was relentless in his love and devotion for Islam and participated in all major battles, conquests and campaigns barring battle of Badr. Details on this can be gathered when we listen to Shaykh Yasir revealing them at great length in this talk above. An excellent saying by the great sahaba is that he says, "Let me report you something that I heard from the Prophet: The Messenger of Allah said, 'If a person seizes a land that does not belong to him, that land will be wrapped around his neck on the Day of Judgment even if he is under the seventh floor of the earth. A person who dies for his property is regarded as a martyr.' For more such beautiful Hadith, do listen to the above talk intently and come out enlightened immensely.

Muslims In Trumps America

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi delves on the 7 points of reflection on the election of Trump: Humility - Our knowledge is so limited that nobody saw it coming and hence, we should exhibit humility.don't be so arrogant of what we know, as only Allah is the All Knowing. Shock - We felt numb when the news came to the fore. We have to believe that Allah knows what we don't know. Only Allah knows what the future holds. Hindsight - Looking back, we should analyse the mistakes that we committed. Hypocrisy - pointing at Muslims on our values regarding women when they are clearly hypocritical in this regard. Fear - The fear of Islamophobia is rampant on our minds ever since Trump has come into power. But we have to turn to Allah with strong Iman and Aqeedah in our hearts. Action - We should now understand the importance of community activism more than ever. Hope - we need to re instill undying faith in Allah that nothing will happen to us except that which Allah has willed for us.

Reclaiming Jihad From The Radicals

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi address the elephant in the room which is the difficulty in navigating challenges and struggles on a daily basis for the Muslim Ummah. The reason for this is the radicals which include extremist groups who have been angered by the transgressions of the political superpowers who have jeopardized our religion and its pureness and have made the word Jihad a word marred with doubts, terror and destruction. Jihad in Islam translates to the types of struggles we discover and overcome to attain proximity to Allah. When the circumstances dictate necessity, a 'jihad' is physical, and at any given time, one must indulge in a spiritual 'jihad' against one's lower self. Hence, to overcome this xenophobia and Islamophobia, we need to have renewed commitment and faith to uphold our religion and to commit ourselves to the Call of Allah, the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ, the Qur'an and similar aspects.

Lives Of The Sahaba 42 - Abu Ubaidah Amer Ibn Al-Jarrah

In this video, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi divulges explicit details on the life and times of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah or commonly called Abū ‘Ubaydah ‘Āmir ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn al-Jarāḥ. This great Sahaba who is amongst the Ashara Mubashara was an embodiment of humility, integrity, honesty and modesty. But this was in sharp contrast to his personality on the battlefield where he displayed immense strength, valour and bravery. An interesting anecdote is shared by the Shaykh that illustrates this very aspect during the battle of Uhud. Abu Ubaidah RA had to part with his two front teeth which came as a result of the piercing of the Prophet ﷺ blessed head due to his own helmet. Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah was unable to stand and witness this misery and hence, after seeking permission from the Prophet ﷺ to be allowed to do the honour of relieving him of his pain. The life of Abu Ubaidah saw him in the wake of an intense test of his commitment for Islam at the battle of Badr . it was almost incomprehensible as to how this could ever be achieved if not for the utter love for Allah SWT and Muhammad SAW. Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah was face to face with his own father who was making every possible attempt to attack the Prophet ﷺ which shocked him no end. Nevertheless, he kept his faith strong and annihilated his father without any remorse or regret only for the sake of the Prophet ﷺ. When Abu Ubaidah was in Jabyia he became severely ill due to plague and was almost on his deathbed, he advised his army the following - “Let me give you some advice, which will cause you to be on the path of goodness always. "Establish Prayer, fast in the month of Ramadan, give charity, perform the Hajj and Umrah, remain united and support one another, be sincere to your commanders and do not conceal anything from them. Don't let the world destroy you for, even if man were to live a thousand years, he would still end up with this state that you see me in. Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah." For many more such stories , military conquests and details on hadith, please listen to the above talk with diligence.

Domestic Violence And How To Deal With It

Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi addresses the topic of domestic violence which is prevalent and rampant in all sects of society. He delves on matters related to the position of the Qur'an and Sunnah when it comes to prohibition of violence against women, the types of abuse (physical, emotional) women have to deal with and what should be one’s stance in the wake of being the subject of domestic violence. Islam in no way supports this un-Islamic and toxic practice and if anyone resorts to this demeaning act, it is only because of defects in his behaviour and not because of religion. A'ishah RA said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never struck a servant of his with his hand, nor did he ever hit a woman. He never hit anything with his hand, except for when he was fighting Jihad in the cause of Allah.” Treat your wives with kindness. The Shariah does not condone the abuse of wives. In light of the ideal man who is the Prophet ﷺ, we should imbibe and inculcate the Hadiths given to us and stand firm on the teachings of Qur'an and Sunnah. The final Khutbah made by the Prophet ﷺ addresses women : “O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.”
