The Branches of Faith - Episode 09 - The Divine Names of Allah
In yet another profound talk, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi encompasses the importance of knowing Allah’s names, calling upon Allah by those names, and includes the discussion of the number of Allah’s names.
He makes us understand that every Muslim who seeks knowledge about Allah and to increase his love for Allah can do so by learning more about His names and attributes. By learning more about Allah and about His essence, one can appreciate His power over all things, and can make one sincere toward Him and increase in taqwa (piety).
Citing reference to the hadith that says, “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one. Whoever learns them will enter Paradise.” (Reported by Al-Bukhaari (2736) and Muslim (2677)), we are reaffirmed that we will taste the reward of Jannah if we memorize these wonderful attributes.
However, Shaykh Yasir insists that many scholars conform to the fact that learning the 99 names doesn’t mean that all names total to ninety nine. The Qur'an alone has 200 names mentioned in various Surahs.
Allah commands the believers in the Qur'an to call upon Him using His names (that we know). The verse states:
“And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them…”
[Surah al-Aaraaf 7:180]
Hence, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi stresses on the very fact to constantly contemplate, comprehend, memorise and then implement the names and attributes of Allah SWT in our daily existence while making dua'. This, he assures, will pave a way for the ultimate destination - Paradise.

Iman is something that exists in the heart and is manifested by the tongue and limbs. Islam and Iman are terms that can be synonymous but can also have specific meanings for each. We gather information that if Islam and Iman occur separately, then in reality they are synonymous. If they are listed together, then Iman is at a higher level than Islam and Ihsan is at an even higher level.
Why does Allah mention only the increase of Iman in the Qur'an and not the decrease. Why is this so and what does Allah want to showcase through this?

"O you who have believed, fear Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will [then] give you a double portion of His mercy and make for you a light by which you will walk and forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."

The Branches of Faith - Episode 02 - The Tree of Iman
In this enriching and beautiful talk by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi, we come to realize how alike Iman and a palm tree are and how we can seek to create a unique symbolism between the two.
Iman needs to be nourished with our good deeds just as a tree is nourished with water . Similarly, Iman should be enlightened (through Qur’an) as a tree is enlightened with sunlight. Iman should be protected from sins and evil deeds (major and minor) like how a tree is protected from weeds . The more sins we have the more the tree will be damaged and rendered beyond repair.
The Shaykh goes on to describe the towering branches of a date palm tree as as a sign of flourishing and manifestation of our Iman and enlightens us with metaphorical meaning behind this, that is, Izzah in this life and the Hereafter, lifting our ranks in Jannah, everywhere and much more.
May Allah protect, strengthen and perfect our Iman.
