Yasir Qadhi

Shaykh Yasir talks about the Du'a from Surah Al Muminun which he acquaints us with and implores us to use often. "Indeed, there was a party of My servants who said, 'Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us and have mercy upon us, and You are the best of the merciful.'" [Surah Al Muminun, Verse 109]

Shaykh Yasir discusses the Du'a we must make for our parents. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.” [Surah al-Isra, Verse 24] The mother and the father is the widest door to Jannah as said by the Prophet ﷺ. There are numerous Hadith that reassert the supreme status of the parents which is next only to Allah and the Prophet ﷺ.

Shaykh Yasir talks about the Du'a of the Prophet ﷺ for Hijrah. Say: “O my Lord! let my entry be by the Gate of Truth and Honour, and likewise my exit by the Gate of Truth and Honour; and grant me from Thy Presence an authority to aid (me).” [Surah 17, Verse 80] The meaning of Maqam Al Mahmud which is the praiseworthy station and is explained with immense clarity and should be listened to intently and is something not to be missed.

Du'a for Blessings Everywhere We Go

Shaykh Yasir discusses the Du'a of Prophet Musa.  'O Allah! Make my heart at ease..'[Surah Taha -Verses 25-35] The first act of worship that Musa [AS] does is dua directly addressing Allah SWT. We can derive important things from this Dua: To make his heart tranquil and at ease.To make this affair easy for him.To solve his problem of stuttering.To give him a helper from his own family.To make his helper a Prophet along with him being a Prophet too.

Shaykh Yasir talks about the dua of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Musa and the lessons to imbibe and inculcate from these magnificent duas. ‘O Allah! Don’t make us a Fitnah for the Kafir’ [Surah Yunus , Verses 85-86] What does it imply?  Don’t punish us at the hands of the Kafir like Firaun. Don't make us a test for them. Do not make them win over us and torture us. Do not allow the kafir to see something in us that makes him reject Islam. Do not make me a Fitnah for the kafir. Do not make us failures even in this Dunya because this will be used as an interpretation for them to believe that our religion is backward.

Shaykh Yasir divulges 3 impediments that prevents our duas from being accepted. One whose heart is oblivious from the dua. Issue of Haram food and drink obtained from Haram sources of money - not earning Halal Rizq. Hastiness in dua and stopping of making dua.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi acquaints us with immense clarity the following dua for protection against Shaytan in the Qur'an. And say, "My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me. [Surah Al Muminun, Verses 97 - 98] This lecture explicitly illustrates the need for Istia'dhah before reciting the Qur'an. Also,  the wisdom behind creating the entity called Shaytan is as follows: Allah is manifesting the diversity of His Qudrah. To have an actual and real enemy that is alive which will make us more conscious and aware of our actions. Good is only appreciated when it is contrasted with the evil. True piety will only shine in this circumstance. The tactics used by Shaytan to allure us are also discussed in immense detail and makes for  a very interesting listen.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi talks about Allah's promise in answering dua. One of the most powerful verses in the Qur'an that ascertains the acceptability of any dua is as follows. ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ  Call on Me, I will answer your prayer. [Surah Ghafir, 40:60] There are three ways in which a dua is accepted. You will get what you want You will get something equivalent for the dua you asked Any calamity that was in your way will be averted The Shaykh implores us to never be stingy in asking duas to Allah. The more you ask Allah, the more He will love us.

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi acquaints us with the next aspects of Tawassul that can make our duas to Allah. One of the most powerful mechanisms to make a dua is by using the Names of Allah while making dua to Allah so as to invoke effectiveness of the dua. Two Names of Allah applicable in any dua that are equally valid - Allahumma and Rabbana. The dua made by Zakariyyah AS for a child is the best example of using the appropriate name of Allah - وَزَكَرِيَّا إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ O my Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the Inheritors. [Surah Ambiya, 21:89] It is also acceptable to let someone of a high status of piety, righteousness and religiosity to make dua on our behalf.
