Taylor Beavis on LGBTQ+ Financial Planning & running a business with purpose, and why he went self employed / DA

on episode 20 of the Financial Planner Life Podcast your host Sam Oakes talks to Taylor Beavis of Universe Financial Advice. Taylor is quite unique. At the age of 25, he is running his own directly authorised IFA practice. After speaking to several IFA business owners, he quickly established that client relationships are everything and having ownership of these will ensure that his business grows in value over time. So for Taylor, self-employment was the only option. His chosen route into the profession was challenged numerous times, being told that he’s too young and perhaps he should cut his teeth as an administrator first. He is extremely pleased he didn’t take this advice and encourages anyone who feels they have the relevant skills to push on into a client facing role. We also discuss why there is a distinct lack of LGBTQ+ financial planners and why those in the community require a different approach to financial planning.  Other discussions include:Why charity is at the heart of his proposition, and he shares why having an altruistic purpose is so important when running your own business. How he achieved CAS Status in 4 months self-employed - it doesn’t need to be over-complicated. His strategy for generating new clients. (Great tips that anyone can implement.)How PR helped him raise his profile during lockdown. How his clients can keep physically and financially fit by using  ‘Richer Fit’ – great benefit!a great with lots of postivity and great shares. Financial Planner Life is sponsored by Redmill AdvanceWhether you're starting out, already qualified, or building a training academy, Redmill Advance delivers expert-led learning, exam support and CPD from Level 4 to Chartered.✅ Trusted by top UK firms👉 www.redmilladvance.com/fplBe sure to follow Financial Planner Life on YouTube for extra content about  career development within Financial Planning. Reach out to sam@financialplannerlife.com in regards to sponsorship, partnerships, videography or podcast production. Want to appear on the Financial Planner Life podcast? This week Sam Oakes talks to Tina Weeks on the Financial Planner Life Podcast. Sometimes the universe presents people that become influential in your life and for me, on episode 11 of The Financial Planner Life podcast, Tina Weeks was one of those people.  I really enjoyed talking to Tina Weeks. Her passion and enthusiasm for the Financial Planning profession is beautiful; we need more women like Tina pioneering and changing the way Financial Planning is delivered.   Tina Weeks lives and breathes the relationship-based approach, and is a firm believer that to know your clients you must first ‘know thyself’.  This is why Tina Weeks has set up a new training academy for financial planners to help them learn the skills necessary to build transformational client relationships.  She is building a community on Facebook in a group called ‘KnowThySelf Academy’: a community focused on why YOU, the Financial Planner, do the things you do, and how knowing more about yourself will improve client relationships and open you up to a whole new dimension of Financial Planning.   Do you want to attract more Financial Planners to the profession?  Then talk about how you change clients' lives, rid them of fears, and help them realise their goals! Now that’s an exciting and rewarding career.  Thanks, Tina Weeks, I’m looking forward to being the first Relationship-Based Recruitment Consultant.
