Sex Trafficking Awareness
According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of whom 80% are female and half are children. However, both the international arena, and human trafficking for labor (as separate from trafficking for sexual purposes) are too vast for this episode to cover. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year for commercial sex. Yet, it has been estimated that two-thirds of sex trafficking victims in the United States are US citizens, bringing the numbers of new recruits to estimated 50,000 each year. The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the U.S. is 12 to 14 years. Poverty and a lack of education play major roles in the lives of many women in the sex industry. Many victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children. California harbors 3 of the FBI's 13 highest child sex trafficking areas on the nation: Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego. The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than any other state in the US This episode hopes to open a window of understanding and compassion toward the centuries-old phenomenon as it manifests in our contemporary society, where popular travel, cellular phones, and the internet make it easier than ever to reach and groom potential victims. This conversation offers listeners the means to combat sex trafficking in their own backyard. Valeria Teles interviews Talia Carner. Novelist Talia Carner is formerly the publisher of Savvy Woman magazine and a lecturer at international women's economic forums. She is a committed supporter of global human rights and has spearheaded projects centered on the subjects of female plight and women's activism. Her five novels have been hailed for exposing society's ills, the latest of which is THE THIRD DAUGHTER (HarperCollins, September 2019.) Set in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s, it is the story of a Jewish girl caught in sex trafficking. Talia Carner has given over 300 keynote speeches and presentations about the social issues behind her novels to civic, educational and religious organizations. Principles of The Conditioned Mind
There's no way you will ever fully understand life conceptually so answers are made up. Only in the space of silence can you listen to what the moments of life have to say without making up answers… The more attachment there is to your given name, the more this creates a delusional self. When this is exposed it doesn't lead to knowing who you are, it leads to an awareness of who you are not… When there's not the constant push or pull to fulfill some self-satisfying pleasure, the mind settles and the Universe works with your higher frequency for its betterment… It's the selfish view of satisfying "I" that keeps you from the vision of seeing your own light. This vision of light only occurs when your view comes from looking inward… The conditioned mind creates a view based on unconscious wanting. It's difficult to break this because most of what is done reinforces this unconsciousness; a conscious mind is simply aware of awareness… ~ Michael Cupo In this episode, Michael Cupo talks about the Principles of The Conditioned Mind and other thoughts in between! Michael Cupo was born in Newark NJ in 1958 and he is one of six children. There was always plenty of love in his life, but it seemed he always felt like something was missing. Although Michael had every opportunity a person could want, for some reason he always made decisions that weren't conducive to his well being. He started using alcohol, drugs, and gambling at the age of thirteen which is when it seemed like his life went in a completely different direction. Michael got married, bought a house, and had two children, although, by society's standards his life was seen as a success, something was still missing. That's why he said it seemed like because my life was only better on the material plane; he still had something in him that didn't allow him to enjoy life. Michael has since come to understand what this something was. His struggles with life were all self-inflicted, mainly because of the missing ingredient of love in his life; not the love he was given, but the ability to give love. This is what led him to the writing of his book "It's Monday Only in Your Mind: You Are Not Your Thoughts." What he has come to understand is nothing new, but it's unique in the way that he sees it. What Michael sees is at such a practical level that anyone who thinks they are not getting the most out of their life will be able to understand it. He has since found the peace he always sought. My Dog is More Enlightened Than I Am
Have you ever watched your dog suddenly start chasing his/her tail? Out of nowhere, an urge strikes and they're off in circles! I love this! It makes me giggle every time and I'm so envious of this unfiltered, undecided show of spontaneity. Do you think you're spontaneous? Yes, you say? But are you THIS spontaneous? As humans, we think we need to control and plan everything. This is a protection we have against the unknown. The fight-or-flight mentality. From the time we are children, we are instructed to prepare. From the Boy Scout motto to SAT exams for college, the theme is always about constructing a plan! Let's become more spontaneous. Be creative. Nothing is off-limits! - Maureen Scanlon This episode is about positive changes, unconditional love, connecting body and mind and thoughts in between - and will be listening to Maureen Scanlon who is an Author, Relationship Expert, Motivational Speaker, Positive Change Integrator, and Spiritual Coach. Ancient Wisdom: Thyroid Healing With Ayurveda
Vata in nature represents the elements of space and air and is considered light, quick, dry, rough, and cold. It is also the element of movement. Too much of any of these qualities will imbalance the body. One must learn how to keep Vata balanced or else all therapies will give only partial relief. The thyroid cannot handle the constant hyperactivity of imbalanced Vata, and it ends up weakening this very delicate gland. Natural remedies, which are remedies grown in nature, contain nature's healing and life-supporting vibration, known as prana. Prana delivers intelligence to the cells and helps cellular communication directing all the cells' activities. For utmost healing, the remedies you use should be found in nature, such as herbs foods and spices. The prana contained in these nutrients is delivered deep into the cells, giving an intelligent response. ~ Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum This episode is about Ancient Wisdom and Thyroid Healing With Ayurveda… and will be listening to her: Dr. Marianne Teitelbaum! We are all a part of the energy of our Source. This means that within us lies all the power we need to heal ourselves and to draw to us everything we desire. The Spirit of the Universe is Patient
We can experience God in ordinary circumstances: in a stunning sunrise or a quiet subway ride. We can sense his power in creation and his sovereignty in its order. But he is just as real and present in your particular struggles and your specific pain. When we feel a peace that "transcends all understanding" in the midst of tough circumstances, we are experiencing the presence of God in our lives. He speaks in ways we expect, and in ways we do not. Human life—all of it—is the precinct of epiphany: of God's showing, of God's constant speaking and breathing. ~ From Explore God.com This episode is about a personal experience with God and other thoughts in between … and will be listening to Lawrence McGrath…. An 86 year-old author who used to be a marine pilot, college professor, college president, bank president, and a consultant.
