140. Amy Hollingsworth | CrossFit Certifications

On today’s episode, Fern sits down with Amy Hollingsworth, the Certification Program Manager for Crossfit and owners Kitsap Crossfit with her husband, Dan. Fern and Amy discuss the differences between The Levels 1, 2, 3 and the soon to be released level 4. Nicole Carroll says that “Amy’s  superpower is getting things a credited.”  Amy has been fundamental when it comes to The Level 3 being certified. She talks us through how it’s professional credential with less than 1% of Crossfit Credentialed professional having it. She takes a deep dive into why you really do need to know your stuff for this exam and why it demands a lot from you. Also, Amy remind us how much The Level 3 is still in its early days with it came out in 2015. Part of that is it’s always getting refreshed and update, so it reflects the standard of the coaches taking it. Amy’s answers some questions around The Level 4, like it is real and why it’s taking it’s time to be released. The simple answer is like the all things Crossfit wants to do it right and make sure it means something not just in the Crossfit world be everywhere. 139. RX Month

On today's episode Fern discuss what happens once a year at Crossfit Rife, it's called RX Month. It's where for a whole month they change what it means to do the workout "prescribed". It's called RX month because of it about giving everybody the opportunity to RX the stimulus. They also dive into the how-to brief and run RX month. The problems that can come about and the push that came from some members at first. 138. Dr. Steve Ilardi | Depression and CrossFit

On today's episode, Ackerman talks to Dr Steve IIardi about the benefits of exercise when it comes to depression. Dr Steve Ilardi is a professor of clinical psychology and the author of The Depression Cure: The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression Without Drugs. Earlier on in his career, Dr Ilard found the depression epidemic was getting worse and traditional forms of treatment aren't working. He was a correlation between the epiphany and of the 21-century lifestyle of being sedentary, indoors and a heavy fast-food debit that was creating the problem. Dr Ilard examples how exercise is more beneficial than any other anti-depression medication on the market. They cover a wide host of topics in today episode such as symptom and activity has this impact too, the more critical discussion how you as box owner can help a member who comes to about their depression. It's the most unutilised part of a class, meaning it's either not planned for or is just an afterthought of "if there's time". Fren and Ackerman example that why it's essential to your athletes, and it doesn't have to be just sketching, it about brings people back down to normalcy. It's also the time in which you have a clear opening as a coach to connect with people and build that relationship. 136. Paul Tremblay | CrossFit NCR

On today episode Fern chats with Paul Tremblay. Paul has a very impressive resume in the Crossfit space. He owns CrossFit NCR with two business partners, opened back in 2013. Paul’s made it to the games multiple times as an individual and five times on the demo team, most recently this year with James Hobart. He’s been seminar staff since 2015. Also, Paul recently joined the Coaches Development Program team. - Yes, Paul is a pretty impressive dude. During the episode, Fern and Paul cover everything they can between how being an athlete helped him bee better coach, to his internship on staff. Along with having multiple members of the seminar staff team, not only work at his gym but co-owns it with him. They discuss what it’s like to have numerous owners running one box, making it successful so they can all make a living from it. 135. Eric Malzone | Future of Fitness

On today's podcast, Ackerman sits down with Eric Malzone, who's been involved in fitness for over 20 years. Originally, a CrossFit affiliate owner Eric now runs a consultant company that Ackerman personally used to help with setting up Own Your Eating. Eric and Ackerman first met on one of Eric's podcasts, Fitness Blitz Radio,  where Eric interviewed him about Owning Your Eating. Fun fact it's still Fitness Blitz Radio most listened to episode even two years on. Eric owned his affiliate for about eight and a half years before ultimately selling. During the episode, Eric describes how he sold his box successfully, with tangible advice to help you do the same. Even if you're not looking to sell this advice is invaluable, it will highlight the pitfalls within your business that are not allowing you to make a profit or be able to take a step back and everything not fall apart.
