Episode 152 ENGLISH LEARNING TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS 2021

In this English lesson, I ask the experts, those who have already reached a high level of English what are their tips for learning English in 2021. Tips came in from all over the world: Canada, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Taiwan, and Brazil. All of the tips I share are from people with whom I have spoken to over the last year. They offer great tips like: recording videos of yourself speaking English, don't worry about being weird, jot down neat colorful notes and review them. Hey, who knows? Maybe even finding an English speaker to have a romantic relationship with.  I mean, who knows?   If you have tips for learning English that you'd like to share, please leave a comment below.

Episode 148 ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS IN A SNOWSTORM WITH EXAMPLES | “CHEW OUT” | “MISS OUT”

In this English lesson, I explain how to use the phrasal verbs, "chew out" and "miss out" as simply as possible. I also have to watch out for the plow that is trying to clear the street that I'm walking on because I'm trying to teach during a snowstorm.  Because "tongue lashing" is closely related to "chew out," I also explain that English idiom.    🇺🇸  🇬🇧  Follow this link for bonus credits from Italki for online English lessons after your first purchase: https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1355613&u=2346050&m=70611&urllink=&afftrack=  🔷 To become a member, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCakDTg9dhhAsr3WmHyJDa-g/join  🔷  Follow me on Instagram for mini-mini lessons: https://www.instagram.com/americanenglishwiththisguy/   🔷  To save 35% off a year subscription at LingQ:  https://www.lingq.com/en/americanenglish/

Episode 147 DON’T SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS IN THE UNITED STATES...SAY THIS INSTEAD

Link to original video: https://youtu.be/R-Zv4fvt9sM Merry Christmas isn't said as much as other things like Merry Christmas. Try saying Season Greetings and a few other things that I mention in the video.  Seeing we have many different religions in the United States, Merry Christmas.   🇺🇸  🇬🇧  Follow this link for bonus credits from Italki for online English lessons after your first purchase: https://shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1355613&u=2346050&m=70611&urllink=&afftrack=  🔷 To become a member, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCakDTg9dhhAsr3WmHyJDa-g/join  🔷  Follow me on Instagram for mini-mini lessons: https://www.instagram.com/americanenglishwiththisguy/   🔷  To save 35% off a year subscription at LingQ:  https://www.lingq.com/en/americanenglish/ you find something else to say besides merry christmas to be honest in the united states we do not say merry christmas all that often unless we know that person actually celebrates christmas yeah so we're having christmas in my garage this year my mom is going to come over we did the best we could to make it seem a little bit like christmas she will sit there and that is her stocking and a little plant to make it seem like christmas in the united states we have a lot of different cultures a lot of different religions and not everybody celebrates christmas in fact a lot of americans do not celebrate christmas my wife jamie and i both work in public schools as teachers different schools at her school there are quite a few students who are jewish and they celebrate hanukkah at my school there are about 20 of the students who are muslim so they don't celebrate christmas either we never talk about christmas in school we don't want to leave anyone out in the united states we are big on something called inclusion meaning we want to include as many people as possible if i did a lesson as a teacher or talked about christmas in my classroom then some students might feel left out simply because they don't celebrate christmas now in our town there are lights put up on the streets there are some decorations but none of them will say merry christmas instead you might see a sign that says season's greetings because the people who pay taxes in our town don't necessarily celebrate christmas so it would be unfair to use their tax money to put up actual christmas decorations also at my school i would never ask a student hey what did santa bring you for christmas of course like i said many of my students don't celebrate christmas but even the ones i know who do i wouldn't ask that because of course if a person's parents aren't exactly rich or have a lot of money they might not get a lot of presents from santa and that might make the student feel bad so we never ask what did you get for christmas from santa claus most students in the united states will get time off in the winter starting on christmas eve december 24th and it usually lasts until the day after new year's day which is often january 2nd this year it happens to be january 4th because new year's day is on a friday and we get saturday and sunday off and i know there are some people watching right now who might not celebrate new year's day because you use a different calendar but here in the united states everyone is on the same calendar so everyone knows when new year's day is but that break that we get when i was a child was called christmas break now we call it winter break just to include everyone at my school ramadan is observed it's not celebrated but it's observed

Episode 145 ENGLISH IDIOMS PART 1 | BALLS TO THE WALL | ON THE OTHER HAND

This is the first of a few podcasts that will be released where I explain some common and no so common English idioms. This is the second in a series of seven English idioms I am explaining during this week of idioms. I tried to pick one that is very common, but also one that many non-native English speakers might not have heard before.  I also explain some other English idioms like "All the way" and "Turn it up to 10."  And no, it's not those kind of balls. In the English lesson, I explain we are talking about the ball at the top of a pilots stick shift. I also explain what a stick shift is.
