Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon: Everything You Need to Know and a Recap

One of the holy grail adventures of ultrarunning is Grand Canyon’s Rim to Rim to Rim: a 47-ish mile adventure with 12,000+ feet of elevation gain that takes runners from one rim of the canyon to the other, and then back to the starting point. Known for its jaw-dropping views, wildly volatile temperature, and brutal climbs, it makes for one of the most unforgettable experiences an ultrarunner can have. I recently completed Rim to Rim to Rim for the very first time with three of my amazing friends, and it was the journey of a lifetime. I know that a ton of listeners would like to complete the challenge one day, so I decided to compile everything someone needs to know and prepare for it in this episode. I chat about when the best time of year to go is, what you need to be careful of, what gear you should bring, a description of the course, mistakes we made (so you don’t have to make them) and so much more. On top of that, I give a recap of our day in the canyon to tell you what it was like. Plus, I even bring on the three savages who completed this run with me: Jordan Moon, Kimo Clark, and Benjamin Holmgren. They all share their perspective about the run, the hilarious stories that ensued, and their biggest lessons learned from the day. They are awesome guys indeed. All in all, if you’re thinking about doing this run: do it. And this episode will set you up for success. Ultra Training Tips from a Golden Ticket Winner with Adam Peterman

One of the toughest accomplishments to achieve in ultrarunning is securing a Golden Ticket spot to Western States 100 by placing in the top 2 of the Canyons 100K race. And today’s guest recently accomplished that feat, even though the race was only his first 100K ever! Adam Peterman is a HOKA athlete who has been taking the ultrarunning world by storm over the last few years in his early career. He won the JFK 50 miler in 2021, nearly breaking a seemingly unreachable course record. And in this year, he took first place at the Canyons 100K race to secure his spot at Western States 100, where he will no doubt be a top contender to look out for in an already stacked field. And in this episode, we dive into Adam’s approach to training and preparation for big races, how he tackles negative thoughts during the middle of a race or on training runs, and what he’s focusing on going into Western States 100. The Keys to Consistency In Running and Training with Andrew Glaze

I’ve asked tons of ultrarunners what their #1 tip is for being a better athlete every day. And the most common answer by far? Be more consistent. Meaning, you make running a part of your routine, and you stick with it on a near daily basis. Our guest today, Andrew Glaze, is the perfect example of what it means to be consistent, as he is currently on a 111-week streak of running 100 mile weeks! Totally crazy. Andrew is one of the most passionate ultrarunners you’ll ever meet, as his love for running is unmatched. He has completed tons of ultra races, logged an insane amount of miles on his feet (with him ranking in the top 10 in the world on Strava at times), and documents his entire journey for all to be inspired by on social media. On top of being an avid ultrarunner, he is also a firefighter/first responder and shows up as a loving husband and father to his family. He lives by the amazing phrase: “smile or you’re doing it wrong”, and his incredible energy has inspired thousands on social media, gaining him over 100k followers on TikTok. In this episode, Andrew talks about how he’s able to stay so consistent with his running (so you can too), how he manages his time to get in his training and still show up fully in his job and family, and why running slow is actually the key to performing better.
