People are all in with you. But then, reality sets in. Real life happens and some things have to be put on hold. And unfortunately, it usually your own goals. Yet this year is going to be a spectacular year. Not only is the year 2020 cool enough by title, if you like numbers, but you are going to set yourself up for greatness because of the work you will do now instead of regretting life later. Consistency comes by discipline. Without discipline, it's hard to be consistent in your actions. And without consistency, you can become relaxed in how you pursue your goals. Your mental attitude needs to be on point in order to keep your head and body in the game. It takes two! "Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing." ~ John Maxwell You have got to be your biggest fan and toughest team player. You've got to be willing to do the hard work when you don't want to. Those temptations are going to appear around every corner. You can't let them derail your confidence in keeping the discipline and maintaining consistency. Discipline creates freedom. "Discipline is built by consistently performing small acts of courage." ~ Robin Sharma It's time to step it up. Train for life --- be FABulous! The K.I.S.S. ~ Train for life --- be FABulous! You want something different or better than where you are right now. That could be anything. We're talking about health and wellness. But you can apply this to writing a book, how you run your business. Flex your mental muscle. You need to continue to strengthen your mental agility with your goals at hand. You are creating a cohesive plan to adhere to even when you don't feel like it. Your mental capability has to adhere to your lifestyle goals. Just because you've had a bad day doesn't give you permission to eat a half-gallon of ice cream. A bad day is no longer an excuse when you are training for life. Adapt your body to a schedule. It's about finding a rhythm to your day. Every day may be the same, or it could vary based on activities and commitments; your non-negotiables. In order to build a lifestyle, the more proficient you must become in building a schedule Build integrity with yourself. You have got to believe and trust yourself. It's easy to build integrity with others. But how many promises and dreams have you broken with yourself? Too many! So build integrity with yourself. Perform small acts of courage. For example, set an hourly goal, or a morning and afternoon goal. Build belief in yourself. Forget your New Year's resolutions. Stick to simple! Simple and strong intentions that will rock your New Year. You need to set yourself up for success. And you can do this when you focus on specific, intentional goals that will be life-changing. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? What has been a thorn in your side this past year? Time Schedule Money Marriage Children Job These thorns have ultimately been your excuses. For me, it was boxes and a new home with the move. By acknowledging these excuses, you remove the sting and extinguish their power to paralyze your forward progress. Stick to simple! So now that you know your thorns on a first-name basis, you can pair them up with the simple to ten times your results. The K.I.S.S. ~ Stick to simple! If you are having a problem with time, then go buy more time at your favorite box store. Just kidding! But not really. You control your schedule. Schedule your non-negotiables so you can elevate your life. When you give back to yourself, you have more to give to others. If you are having a problem with money, then figure out specifically where the problem exists. Don't lump it all together. Find the gap and figure how you can reallocate funds or change the way you approach what you need to accomplish. Stick to simple! Unfortunately, almost half of those who set New Year's resolutions will quit come February. But that doesn't have to be you! Stick to simple! Simple intentions that keep you focused forward like a warrior. A warrior which plans her attack prior to going into battle. Maybe your marriage or children complicate your days. You have to give more to them than you have time in your day because sleep is important too. I promise if you want it bad enough, you will find a way. Stick to simple! Get up 30 minutes early to write or workout. Put the children to bed 30 minutes early. Look hard enough, you can figure it out. Now if it's your job, it might be a little more challenging. But look exactly where the hang up is. Don't stutter when you can smooth out your schedule to fit your job or vice versa. Stick to simple! "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." ~ Confucius So don't bend your goals because you are expected to. Expect the unexpected for yourself this New Year. Create your now! Every man and woman yearns to live out their life's work through their purpose. How can you make your dreams come true this new year? The power of potential lies within you. The power of potential is key. We see our potential as only being what we think is achievable. Therefore, we put limitations on our own dreams based on lies and truths, and limit our potential for greatness based on past experiences. What story do you want to live in 2020? Your past is not the predictor of your success or your potential. Don't sell yourself short. Don't fall back in what you didn't do. Focus forward! Why not give in to the impossible so God can make it possible? Let Him open and shut the doors. But first that means you have to open your heart. Now what does that really mean. You have to believe that you can achieve. Don't set any boundaries on what that looks like. Take it one step at a time and see where God carries it. So what does the power of potential look like in real life where you run your own race? Search for clarity, not for certainty. You are not banking on what you could do in the past or what you think you can do in the future. You're searching for what you know you are to do in the present. Create your now! Create discipline, not deception. "Discipline engages your potential with purpose." It's the connector. Your mind can play tricks on you which means your mind can deceive you. If you are disciplined, you run the race that's before you, not behind you or next to you. You're not misplacing your energy or focus. Create your now! Aim for possibilities, not probabilities. This is the ignitor. You can't start a fire without a spark. When your focus is on probabilities, then you open up your mind to second-guessing, self-sabotage, and self-doubt. I'm all about being your best selfie, but that's going the wrong direction. Aim for possibilities that in conjunction with discipline and clarity, you have a fire! A dream! Nothing is impossible. There are times in life where difficult decisions must be made. When your heart beats one way, and your head reasons another way, which way will you choose? The life of walking by faith is more than challenging. The thing is, you may stumble, but you will never fall. Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT God's got you! But when you are faced with tough decisions, nothing seems easy. You contemplate and replay so many different scenarios. A father faced a tough decision a year ago. His name was Jimmy Burrow. He wasn't just any father. He was a football player in high school and college, and went on to play professional football in both the NFL and the Canadian league. After his six years in professional football, he continued as a coach. Now he and his wife, Robin, had a son named Joe Burrow. As mom said, "I feel like football is the Burrow family." https://youtu.be/-D508AWz9NM It was a way of life. Joe grew up on the sidelines while his father coached. And when he started to play football, it was Saturday games for Dad and Sunday games for Joe. However, things became somewhat complicated when Joe decided to transfer from Ohio State University to LSU. Dad was only able to go to three games to watch his son. A tough decision came on the eve of the start of Joe's senior year at LSU. If he wanted to see Joe play, he had to retire. A love for his son. A love for coaching. The K.I.S.S. ~ Which way will he choose? In life, there are pivotable moments that define our direction. The beginning of a new year is a restart; an opportunity to center up where you are headed and meet God where He wants you to go. But unfortunately, we get ourselves trapped underneath our own wants and desires. We neglect God's dreams and desires for us. Who would think that God would have a better plan than anything you could ever dream or imagine? What are your dreams and hopes for the New Year? How do you want your spiritual walk with God to grow? Who do you want leading your life? Where do you want go? Lots of questions and maybe limited answers right now. But that's okay! This is your year to create your now. This is your time to rise up and seek what God wants you to find. 14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21 There are times in life where difficult decisions must be made. When your heart beats one way, and your head reasons another, which way will you choose? Remember Jimmy, the football coach, and father to Joe? Well, he made the tough decision. He retired and went to every football game his son played, including the Peach Bowl national semifinal game just yesterday. Not only did he see his son win the Peach Bowl and will now watch him play in the national championship on January 13th, but he also was by his side when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy, the highest honor for a collegiate football athlete. Just as Jimmy sacrificed for his son, God will do exceedingly more than you can ever imagine. Open your eyes and feel the presence. Make the tough decisions. Walk by faith. "God's got you! Let's get ready to rumble! Michael Buffer trademarked that phrase in 1992. He started as an announcer, an MC, for boxing matches. His phrase that he said all the time when introducing the match was "Let's get ready to rumble." Most people think of a fight when they hear that phrase. And unfortunately, when we are tired, we may not hear that phrase in our head when our spouse walks in the door, but there you are. Ready for the boxing match; just because. As you know my Dad passed away over 7 years ago. Well, yesterday would have been my Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary. I still can't believe it. Fifty years is A LOT of years to dedicate your life to someone. If you asked my mom, I'm sure there would be days that she would say that it was more like 75 years of lifetime moments. But other days, so very short when you look back in your mind. I know life wasn't always easy for my parents. Not only did they have three children to raise, but they also had a congregation, a church. They both loved deep and cared much. They put themselves on hold for the sake of others. Sometimes that can be a blessing and at other times a curse. Was their marriage perfect? My mom would definitely say NO! It took lots of work, lots of patience, and forgiveness. When I hear the phrase "Let's get ready to rumble!", in marriage it's all about forgiveness. The K.I.S.S. ~ Get ready to forgive! You know if we led with a forgiving heart rather than a WIIFM heart, there would be a lot more marriages that thrive and less that die. Whether it's a boxing match or a college football bowl game, the fight isn't about the win. The win is about forgiveness. Who can forgive first? And remember, forgiveness is not about the other person. It's not about what they did or didn't do. It's about your heart, your healing, your time to be more joyful. So let's get ready to forgive! Change the coverage. Don't look for what you don't like. Look for the opportunity to serve with a forgiving heart. Embrace the differences as part of your journey. Go deep. If there is something bothering your spouse, then dig deeper. You need to understand his position and what's happening. Don't make assumptions. Those only get you into trouble. Ask questions and then listen. Play for the heart. Words and actions speak volumes. You don't have to have all the answers, but you do know how to get to his heart. So love deep and care much. The tearing of wrapping paper, the breath of anticipation. All-embracing what's to come, because love has come. The moment of unexpected surprise. The words that moved me. Christmas is for boys and girls of all ages, young and old. And even with a list that has been perfectly etched, there is still wonderment of what's to be underneath the paper for you and me. Finally, everyone was awake and ready to engage in the festivities. Our little Einstein, Noah, began unwrapping another rectangle gift as he murmured, "Is this what I wanted or one of the phantom books?" The mystery of complexity. The magic of Christmas. The excitement for a mom who desired to surprise beyond the etched wanted list. But putting it into real life, it was the words that moved me. You could see his eyes light up with anticipation and hopeful glee that soon the mystery would be revealed to him and me. I sat listening with an intensity that could break the sound barrier. Yes! Oh so quiet! And with profound excitement, a gift uncovered that surprised me. A gift from the father's heart. You see, this special gift was picked by his daddy. To see the sweet joy and hear the proclamation that it was not on the list was a sweet taste of extraordinary happiness. Smiles shared by all, especially from the father's heart. As I immersed myself in the presence of gift-giving, I understood what a gift God gave to us; His presence. We too need to give the gift of presence to our children. The K.I.S.S. ~ Give the gift of presence! We can get what we want on the etched wanted list. But where does that get us in life? Maybe one place for a moment, yet you have to look at it from a lifetime perspective. We are becoming masters at digital techno presence, but we are forgetting the heart presence. God gave us His heart; the Father's heart To guide us To protect us To love us unconditionally To awaken our dreams To yearn for something greater than what's on earth. The words that moved me. "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." ~ Isaiah 9:6 Christmas doesn't end today because the presents are all unwrapped and put away for use later. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Mary had a willing heart. She said yes to what seemed impossible. But there in her heart, the magic of Christmas. You have to be willing to say YES! Yes to the hard stuff. Yes to the easy stuff. Yes to the life that requires smiles and tears. But most of all, God wants you to say YES with your heart. He wants all of you. Not just when it's convenient or easy. He wants you during the good, the bad, and the ugly. Remember the shepherds. Luke 2:8-20 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about." 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Clarity is hard to discover when you choose to live in the clutter. Instead of focusing on what you've lost, go in search of your desires. What you seek you will find. I don't know about you, but my mind can become overwhelmed with the last-minute details. Making sure I have everything on my list only to find that one will not arrive as it's undeliverable. Have you ever thought that your dreams might be undeliverable? That what you want in life really doesn't matter. Oh, but it does matter. You matter! Be careful not to wrap yourself up in the pessimistic side of the holidays. You don't want to be the Grinch. Green does not look good on you. So instead of searching for what you can't have, go in search of what you want. What you seek you will find. The season of Christmas teaches us a lot when it comes to living life beyond what we see. We have to believe. We have to be willing to walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) The K.I.S.S. ~ Walk by faith not by sight! You have so much to give the world. Your talents go far beyond what you can even imagine. Sometimes it's easy to wrap ourselves up in others' dreams and forget our own. But you don't have to. Take it from the Wisemen. They followed the star to find the baby who was born in Bethlehem. And then, they were willing to make changes to accomplish the goal at hand. They didn't have all the answers when they started out on their journey. The road on camels by faith and didn't rely only on what they saw, except for the star. You can walk by faith not by sight when you .... Look to God for guidance. Don't take the journey on your own. Know that God goes before you. No matter what you will face on the journey, God will direct your path. You are not alone. Walk by faith. Don't overthink. Don't let overwhelm become your middle name. Make adjustments as needed. Change is a blessing. And when God's got you, you have nothing to fear. "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy...." ~ Luke 2:10 This is your season to light the world you touch with your gifts and talents. This is the day that the Lord has made.
