They're the gentle reminders that Christmas is about more than presents and parties; it's about gratitude, joy, and a love that runs deeper than the wrapping paper. There have been many traditions over the years that I hold close to my heart. One tradition I hold close is our "joy jar." Each day, we write something we're thankful for and drop it in the jar. Watching those notes fill up feels like watching God's goodness build right before our eyes. Another is a family night where we read a story about Jesus' birth, pray together, and talk about what Christmas means—not just the fun stuff, but the why behind it all. And you can't have a birthday party without a cake. Yes, we sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus, even blowing out the candles. Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus our minds on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. [Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8] What better time than Christmas to help our kids practice this? To invite them to thoughtfully consider what they want Christmas to feel like and be about deep down. But here's something to really think about: Staying healthy doesn't mean sacrificing the joy of the holidays. It means building simple habits to beat the holiday burnout. The holiday season is a marathon, not a sprint. You need stamina—and that comes from wise daily habits. The K.I.S.S. ~ Establish wise daily habits! Think of these wise daily habits as ways to make your day easier without having to overthink what needs to be done to be healthy this holiday season. Here's your holiday wellness toolkit: Nourish with balance. Enjoy holiday treats guilt-free, but balance them with whole foods, lean protein, and plenty of veggies to stabilize energy and mood. Hydrate intentionally. Drinking water often gets forgotten amidst hot cocoa and festive drinks. Aim for at least 8 glasses a day to fight fatigue and support digestion. Move mindfully. You don't need a full workout. Fifteen minutes of walking, stretching, or dancing to holiday tunes can reset your energy and mood. Prioritize sleep. Sleep often takes the biggest hit during this season. Commit to winding down 30 minutes earlier and create a restful atmosphere to boost recovery. Make you swap one night of Netflix bingeing for a daily walk after dinner. No one will hand you extra hours. You have to earn them by making the time you have work more innovative—and that starts by connecting to your heart. Between the dinner, dishes, and dogs, how does anyone ever find the time to prepare the family for the true heart of Christmas? Because, like me, I know you are trying to do all the things. But are they the right things? So why not do Christmas differently this year? Create space for Christmas in the chaos. You don't have to create a Pinterest-perfect Christmas to do that. Or maybe it's slowing down long enough for a bedtime conversation that catches your child's curiosity.
