The 2022 off-season has begun for the Detroit Lions. Recently it was announced that the Lions will be coaching the American team at the 2022 Senior Bowl. This presents a great opportunity for Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes, and the rest of the Lions staff to get an up-close and personal look at some of the top prospects in the NFL Draft. They are currently releasing the players’ assignments by position group with some really great names landing on the Lions roster. The 2021 NFL Season has ended for the Lions. Players have cleaned out their lockers, turned in their gear, held their final pressers, and are readying themselves for their respective off-season routines. They bid us a fond farewell with one final FTP, and its in that spirit that we take a look back and perform a retrospective on the 2021 Detroit Lions. That was it. The last game of the 2021 NFL Season for the Detroit Lions. Dan Campbell and company’s first year rebuilding the Detroit Lions has come to an end and they are now entering phase 2 of the process. Brad Holmes will take the wheel and start steering the ship for the next few months, with Dan Campbell performing his postmortem and driving to improve his performance next year. The Detroit Lions met the Green Bay Packers for the second time in the 2021 NFL season, this time at Ford Field. Both teams have pretty much set their respective positions in the playoffs or draft, so this game is about something a little different. They have the top seed (and bye) locked in for the NFC, so resting key players makes a lot of sense. After a close loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Detroit Lions are watching the season wind down with only two wins notched. Two games left means two more bites at the apple, two more opportunities to come up with another win. The Seattle Seahawks likely provide the best opportunity for the Lions in the remaining games. Playing in Seattle is always difficult, but there are a few gaps in the Seahawks armor these days. Detroit Lions Podcast Evaluation The Seattle Seahawks are on the brink of blowing it all up. The decimated Lions travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Lions have achieved in a strange way this season. Playing poorly against teams that they were supposed to beat while playing tight and even beating teams that were supposed to crush them. Its a sort of Yin-Yang, push-pull, giving fans “the ole in and out” (hat-tip: Clockwork Orange). Detroit Lions Podcast Reacts This has been a season in which the team has built a level of confidence that far outstrips their record. They’ve proved supremely competent at building a strong culture amongst players, coaches, and in the front office that will definitely carry this team forward. I don’t think the NFL has seen a team play as hard and as “bought in” as the Detroit Lions in the 2021 NFL season. Against the Falcons this week, the Lions are without starting quarterback Jared Goff and running back D’Andre Swift for the fourth week in a row. Jamaal Williams will be back and Tim Boyle is set to be the team’s signal caller. The Lions are definitely not favored to win this one, but if there’s anything we’ve learned about this team this year – they best chance for a win is when everyone has written them off. After the Detroit Lions convincing win over Pro Bowl quarterback Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Interestingly, the Cardinals have never beaten Jared Goff, so he’s kept that streak intact. Now, its time to look ahead to a game many had penciled in as another potential win for the Lions. As fate would have it, not so fast there, Lions fan. Well, its happened. The Lions have beaten a team 5 or more games over .500 for the first time since most of you started watching football. Not only did the Detroit Lions beat the Arizona Cardinals, they pummeled them into submission. No one in the NFL expected this to happen . Well, Chris laid out this exact scenario in the Game Preview show with Tony Ortiz, but other than that, no one else did. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Quick Turn This Detroit Lions team is sneaky good. Looking at the team’s record one wouldn’t think so, maybe if you see the win against Arizona, but one could write that off as “any given Sunday”, but with the difference of 4 field goals, the Lions would be second in the division right now. Some are going to lament not drafting first overall, but this team might be a whole lot better than where they are drafting already. Couple that with the capital they have available in the draft over the next two years, the money they’ve cleared from the cap this year, and all of a sudden free agency and the draft could push this team to new heights. The rest of the NFL might just lament a team as sneaky good as the Detroit Lions having this kind of draft capital and position. Likely one of the top candidates to go from worst to first in 2022…. As the walking wounded Detroit Lions limp toward the end of the 2021 NFL season, they meet one of the top teams in the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals, at Ford Field. This is one of those games where the Lions have no expectation of coming away victorious. Yet, their season has been one where fans can always expect the unexpected. Could this be, “Any Given Sunday” for the Lions? Detroit Lions Podcast Takes Stock Knowing the team is in a rebuild and then sacrificing over $113 million of their roster to injuries and dead cap, it was a year of austerity beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Yet in a season with just a single win, the Lions have managed to outperform expectations. With a couple of different bounces of the ball, they could be a 5 win team. Now’s the time! The Detroit Lions can exert their dominance over one of the top teams in the NFC in this week’s game against the Arizona Cardinals at Ford Field. A fully healthy Lions team have been notching victories week by week in their march to the world championship, and Arizona looks to be just another casualty on the Lions way to NFL dominance. Detroit Lions Podcast Jolts Upright In A Cold Sweat Oh if that were more than just a dream. Instead the Lions are mired in the last quarter of the 2021 NFL season, decimated by injuries and dead cap to the tune of $113 million. Basically 2/3 of their cap is tied up in people who aren’t on the field for the team. Obviously its difficult to compete with the best in the NFL at 2/3 the cost of talent, but the Lions haven’t really been as bad as one would think – they have a slim shot against the Cardinals.
