Tom Nelson

PROFESSOR IAN PLIMER is Australia’s best-known geologist. He is Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne, where he was Professor and Head of Earth Sciences. He was Professor at the University of Newcastle, Professor at The University of Adelaide and Professor in Munich (Germany). He was also on the staff at the University of New England, the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and North Broken Hill Ltd. He has published more than 130 scientific papers on geology and was an editor of the Encyclopedia of Geology. This is his thirteenth book written for the general public. Professor Plimer has received numerous national and international awards for his scientific work. A new Broken Hill mineral, plimerite, was named in recognition of his contribution to Broken Hill geology. Dr. Matthew M Wielicki was a research assistant professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alabama. Prior to his work at the University of Alabama, he was a post-doctoral research scientist in the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences and the Institute for Planets and Exoplanets at the University of California, Los Angeles. Wallace Manheimer is a life fellow of both American Physical Society (APS) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).  His career has been at the US Naval Research Laboratory since 1970, and he served in the small group of ST-16 senior scientists for his last 14 years there.   Since retiring in 2004, he has served as a consultant at the lab.  At NRL he has worked on inertial fusion, magnetic fusion, a nuclear disturbed upper atmosphere, electron and ion beams, high power microwave and millimeter wave systems, advanced radar systems, and plasma processing.  He is the author of over 150 refereed scientific papers. Mark P. Mills is a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a faculty fellow at Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science. Previously, Mills cofounded Digital Power Capital, a boutique venture fund, and was chairman and CTO of ICx Technologies, helping take it public in 2007.
