Episode 7 – MBSE around the world: Sweden with Tom Strandberg [EN]

Broadcast date: February 17, 2021, 7 p.m. – Language: English We want to learn how MBSE is being used around the world and are launching a new series MBSE around the World. In the first episode, we visit Sweden and talk to Tom Strandberg. Tom is a consultant at Syntell and a veteran of systems engineering in Sweden and INCOSE. He told his systems engineering story as a tour speaker at the first Nordic Systems Engineering Tour in 2013 in the talk Looking Back to Look Forward – Reflections of 15 years of Systems Engineering development and the way forward. We talk about how MBSE is applied in Sweden. How it is used in industry, what is the state of education, where the challenges are, and many more. Of course, we also want to take the opportunity to talk about our guest’s special topics around MBSE. For example, Tom is the organizer of the Scandinavian Systems Engineering Summer School and also co-organizer of the Nordic Systems Engineering Tour. You can join us live at the Youtube livestream on February 17, 2021 at 7pm or later on Youtube, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music or Google Podcasts. Episode 6 – MBSE and Mechanical Engineering with Dr. Jörg Berroth and Dr. Michael Riesener [DE]

Broadcast date: January 26th, 2021 – Language: German Mechanical engineering is traditionally the strongest engineering discipline in Germany, whether measured by graduate numbers, the number of companies or the gross national product. Accordingly, the discipline can draw on a long-standing and extensive design methodology and has many sub-disciplines. But which product or better which end product is still purely mechanical today? Of course, there are many examples besides “screws”, but much innovation is derived from combining technical solutions from several disciplines. Cooperation between the disciplines is not always easy. What does this mean for German mechanical engineering? These and other questions are discussed and solutions developed in the “Center for Systems Engineering” (CSE) at RWTH Aachen University. The Center is an association of three professors from mechanical engineering and computer science. In today’s episode we will talk to the managing directors of the CSE Dr. Jörg Berroth and Dr. Michael Riesener about the goals and chances of the CSE and which role MBSE plays in this context. You can join us live at the Youtube livestream on January 26th, 2021 at 7pm or later on Youtube, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music or Google Podcasts. Episode 5 – How OMG works with Dr. Jason McC. Smith [EN]

Broadcast date: January 13th, 2021 – Language: English This time we have as a guest the CTO of the Object Management Group (OMG) Dr. Jason McC. Smith. We talk to him about how standards like the UML, UAF or SysML are developed at the OMG and in general how the OMG works. We will explain it using SysML v2 as an example, which is currently being developed by the OMG. There are many questions we want to ask Jason: Who is behind the standards? Who decides what goes into a standard and what doesn’t? How can you get involved in the development of the standards? What is the relationship with ISO? Where did the OMG come from and what is planned for the future? What does RFI, RFP, RFC, RTF, FTF, AB, TC, TM mean? I’m sure we’ll come up with more questions during the talk, or you can ask your questions during the live session via the comments feature on YouTube. You can be there live on the Youtube livestream on January 13, 2021 at 7 pm or later on Youtube, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, or Google Podcasts. Show Notes Link to the official OMG Website. Episode 3 – Unboxing SysML v2 [EN]

Broadcast date: November 25th, 2020 – Language: English In this episode, we take a look at a SysML v2 release. At regular intervals, the SysML Submission Team (SST) publishes a release of the pilot implementation of the new SysML v2, including implementations for Jupyter Notebook and for Eclipse, the current state of development of the SysML v2 specification, and client implementations of the new SysML v2 API & Services. The releases give a deep but not easy insight into the current state of SysML v2 and we will unpack a release in this episode and explain and try out the individual parts. Episode 2 – History of SysML [DE]

Broadcast date: November 5th, 2020 – Language: German In this episode we will take a look at the history of SysML. Tim as a member of the first hour, can tell a lot about this. Why was SysML formed in the first place? Was UML not enough? There were and are other OMG standards that have developed in parallel and are now merging again to form SysML v2. If you are wondering “What do you mean, no more UML metamodel?” we’ll go one better: A possible UML v3 could also get a new common basis together with SysML v2.
