There have been many unique and meaningful opportunities that have popped up over the last 27 years that have planted seeds for my love of public speaking. Without those moments, I may not be in the positions I am today. --------------------------------------------- Dr. Jim Van Allan is a speaker & trainer for schools and companies across the nation. Emotional Intelligence: Help First

In a game of tug-a-war, someone has to lose. People can even get hurt in the process if they are not careful. The same goes at work and at home where to-do lists are a mile long and emotional weight burdens us. It is a game of tug-a-war with our emotions and problems. I have my problems...and so do you. I have my worries...and so do you. Is anyone doing anything to help others or do we just want to deal with our own stuff? When you 'help first' you prioritize the needs of others and recognize their emotions. We start breaking the cycle of selfish desire when we open our eyes to the needs and issues of people around us. ----------------------------- Dr. Jim Van Allan is a speaker & trainer for schools and companies across the nation. Emotional Intelligence: Building a Positive Environment

The rule of positive psychology is simple. It basically states: When you build an environment focused on nurture, positive reinforcement, and highlighting strengths and potential, you help people to be the best version of themselves. Today we look at the impact emotional intelligence has on building a positive culture. This is especially important as businesses and schools struggle with retention. This helps to breed positive relationships that will allow the managers to hold people accountable while loving them at the same time. ------------------------------------------- Dr. Jim Van Allan is a speaker & trainer for schools and companies across the nation. Expanding Our View: Understanding the Power & Significance of Nonverbal Communication

As human beings, we tend to focus on one stimulus at a time. Our brain does not like to handle multiple interactions and stimuli and is less effective in these environments. In this episode, we learn about the 1999 Simons & Chabris experiment of the 'invisible gorilla' and how that changed our viewpoints on stimuli and the brain. There is so much nonverbal communication information out there, that we tend to miss most of it since we are singularly focused on the verbal message and not any of the 80% that is actually nonverbal. We miss a lot of what happens around us and here's what we can do about it. Dr. Jim Van Allan is a speaker & trainer for schools and companies across the nation. Understanding & Capturing Our Negative Thinking

The average human being will have between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts per day! Additionally, 80% of our thoughts are negative and 95% are exactly the same as the day before. We are caught in the habit loop of negative and repetitive thinking, and many of us do not even realize it. When we learn to capture our negative thoughts, we begin to speak truth into the lies we tell ourself. ------------------------------------ Dr. Jim Van Allan is a speaker & trainer for schools and companies across the nation.
