97: How To KEEP YOUR NEW HABIT

It’s falling in love with the journey.” Being able to “fail out loud” is just as important, if not more, than being able to celebrate out loud! It’s recognizing that you are human and you will come across human set-backs, along the way, but continuing to push though and not allowing that to deter your goal. Having someone who is on the same page as you or even an entire tribe on the same page as you, (my Body + Soul tribe) is vital! They will be your backbone and your extra push on the days when you'd rather sit in PJ’s and watch Netflix, but know you should be hitting the gym and meal planning! “Unless you are in supported ground and soil, you will not be able to grow where you are.” Which brings me to today’s big topic…HABIT. It’s now the second week into 2017 and the buzz/enthusiasm for new goals is starting to die dow, but that doesn’t mean yours should! Despite what you have heard, thanks to the audible book I have been listening to “The Answer,” it takes about 66 days (on average) to change or form a habit. It’s only January 12th, moral of the story…DON’T.STOP.NOW. 94: NOW or NEVER with Alexi Panos
A leader in the Emergent Wisdom movement, Alexi Panos is on a mission to make personal development mainstream through her books, youtube channel, workshops, international speaking and working with her non profit, E.P.I.C. in Africa. She’s one of Origin Magazines TOP 100 CREATIVES CHANGING THE WORLD, and is a featured expert in the films THE ABUNDANCE FACTOR and RISEUP. She’s authored the books 50 WAYS TO YAY! and NOW OR NEVER, both by Simon & Schuster. Growing up with divorced parents, Alexi takes us back with her, to remembering the long 8 hour road trips she took often, in order to see her Mom. Being only eight years old, the hours seemed extra long and drawn out but she specifically remembers to the audible books her Mother would listen to, to stay awake on the drive. “I just wanted to listen to Madonna and dance in the car but my Mom always had on Mariann Williamson and Tony Robbins. I must admit, I kind-of secretly liked it.” Jumping forward to her teenage and young adult years, the memories of the audible books and the lessons they taught, came in handy quite often. “I came from a small town in Pennsylvania, and it reminded me that I can have a life of my choosing.” A few fun facts that you may not know about Alexi are spilled in her interview as well! Trying out for a newspaper singing audition (which started as a dare) ended up leading her to a record deal with Def Jam and Murder Inc., allowing her to tour from the age of 17-19 with then popular rapper, Ja Rule. Where are my hip-hop lovers at?! Touring the world seems like everyone’s dream, am I right? But it was the last stop of the tour that really hit home for Alexi. “I was in Cape Town South Africa on the tour bus, and looked to my right to see a shanti town on the side of the road. Looked back at the tour bus and it was as if the two worlds didn't match. As if my entire reality just shifted.” Returning back to New York, Alexi left the music business and picked up a bartending job, simply to make the months rent. She was no longer willing to “sell her soul for fame,” as she put it. With the little money she did have, Alexi and her business partner soon created E.P.I.C a non-profit organization giving back and making an impact, internationally! Alexi is the perfect example of following the things that ignite your soul, at all costs and whatever it takes! Its important to know that for your own person growth, that you truly understand you will always be a work in progress. There is never a defined finish line, it is all about the journey there. She is the author of Lift to Get Lean (Rodale, 2015) and the leader of Women’s Strength Nation. Holly is a contributing writer and expert for Women’s Health, SELF, Fitness, Shape, Prevention, Men’s Health and LIVESTRONG. Holly’s mission is to empower women on a personal and spiritual level by leading them into the weight room on a journey of physical strength. Shape magazine named Holly as one of the “Top Trainers to Follow” in 2015. Raised in a small town in Pennsylvania, Holly’s mom was pressing to make sure she chose a career path and was adamant that she pursued whatever she dreamt. With that being said, around the time Holly was in high school, she had no choice but to start to think about her future. “I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. Its all of the other aspects of your motivation and your happiness…what really drives you.” Getting in shape is just the icing on the cake, it is sorting thru the deep rooted issues and reasons and coming out on the other/better end, that will keep these results long-lasting and meaningful! “You have to expose your body to a challenge, in order for it to overcome and get stronger.” These challenges she speaks of, are most likely the ones that you think are “the end,” but let me tell you now…they are really jus the beginning! The job loss, the break up, the pay cut, the loss of a loved one, list the goes on. 89: QUICKIE! It's SELFISH to NOT CARE for YOURSELF
One of my favorite topics, yet one that I feel most of us forget about the fastest…self care. How could you possibly begin to love or care for others, without doing the same for yourself first?! “It is selfish to not care for yourself” Whatever story matches yours, maybe you're a Mom, a CEO looking after tons of employees, or a Nurse with long shifts, WHATEVER the case may be, it is vital to look after yourself just as much as you would any one else! So why the bad rep? Why is it “bad to be selfish?! NEWSFLASH…it’s not! In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you will be criticized anyways!” Starting now (because I am asking you to take a second for yourself,) answer the following questions: How do I show up the I don’t make time for myself? How do I show up when I don’t take care of my physical body and health? How do I show up when I don’t sleep? How do I show up when I don’t eat foods that make me feel healthy? How do I show up when I keep putting off that thing I know would make me feel good? Time for me to get real… “ If you want your children to be happy and the people around you, you WILL get selfish, you will be a little bit selfish!
