The Patrick Madrid Show: June 14, 2024 - Hour 3
Patrick explains why, despite being framed as a pro-life solution, IVF poses significant ethical and moral concerns according to the Catholic Church. Millions of embryos are discarded or frozen, and the procedure separates procreation from the sanctity of marriage. It's crucial to know the truths and complexities behind IVF to understand why it’s not a viable option. IVF leaves hundreds of thousands of embryos abandoned Diane - I've heard that people are thinking of this as pro-life because they take an un-used embryo and raise that child. Is that alright? They themselves didn't go through IVF. (19:24) Andy - My wife and I have five children but we know that we don't want anymore. Is it a sin for us to keep having sex? (24:35) Steve - Who is there to vote for that isn't morally corrupt? (38:18) Ava – Patrick asked her to call back last week after she called about her suicidal thoughts

Is Profanity a Sin? (Special Podcast Highlight)
Lynn from New Jersey called in with a hot topic: her friend's constant use of foul language. While her friend doesn’t use the Lord’s name in vain, she still swears a lot. Lynn thinks it's sinful, but her friend disagrees. Patrick jumps in to support Lynn, backing her up with some solid Bible verses. Highlights: Bible Says No to Foul Language: Ephesians 4:29: Don’t let any rotten talk come out of your mouth. Only say what’s helpful and builds others up. Ephesians 5:4: No filthy or foolish talk, no crude jokes – instead, be thankful. James 1:26: If you think you’re religious but don’t control your tongue, your religion is worthless. Colossians 3:8: Get rid of anger, malice, and obscene talk. Why It’s a Big Deal: Patrick points out that if the Bible says not to do something, and you do it anyway, you’re flirting with sin. He sees cursing as a form of "verbal violence" that can hurt those around you. Kick the Habit: Patrick suggests treating foul language like any other bad habit – just stop doing it! Colossians 4:6 is a great verse to remember: “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt.” Patrick’s Honest Opinion: Even if society thinks it’s no big deal, Patrick believes using bad language is still wrong. He admits it’s his personal opinion, but he feels strongly that it’s worth avoiding, even if it’s just a venial sin. Takeaway: Swearing is definitely not aligned with biblical teachings. Patrick and Lynn agree that working towards speaking more graciously is not only respectful but also spiritually uplifting.

What's the Nature of the Holy Spirit? (Special Podcast Highlight)
Understanding the Trinity and the role of the Holy Spirit can be very confusing, but don't worry! Patrick Madrid is here to explain. Let’s delve into the highlights: Understanding the Holy Spirit Nature of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. This means we're talking about one God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is fully God, possessing the same divine nature as the Father and the Son. Eternal Mystery Beyond Time: God exists outside of time. When we say God is eternal, it means He is not bound by temporal limitations. This applies equally to the Holy Spirit. Trinity Explained One God in Three Persons: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not three separate gods. They share one divine essence. If they were separate, it would limit God's infinitude, contradicting His nature. Analogies: Patrick uses the analogy of a reflection in a mirror to illustrate the distinct yet unified nature of the Trinity. Though this analogy is not perfect, it helps us grasp the concept of distinct persons sharing one essence. Scriptural Insights Incarnation and the Holy Spirit: Jesus, the incarnate second person of the Trinity, receives the Holy Spirit in His humanity. This is seen at key moments like His baptism, where the Holy Spirit descends like a dove. Mary's Role: Mary, full of grace and overshadowed by the Holy Spirit, becomes the mother of Jesus through a miraculous, divine act, showing her unique relationship with the Holy Spirit. Divine Knowledge and Love Infinite Attributes: God's knowledge, power, and love are limitless. The Holy Spirit, sharing in this divine infinitude, also embodies these attributes fully. Go Deeper If you want to learn more, Patrick recommends Dominum et Vivificantem, an encyclical by St. Pope John Paul II, which delves into the Holy Spirit's role and nature.
