Is Your Peer Group Holding You Back? - Thought Of The Week
Is Your Peer Group Holding You Back? My #ThoughtOfTheWeek I've spent the past week in Napa, California, at Mastermind Talks - an incredible event organised by Jayson Gaignard that brings together a super impressive people at the top of their game. Spending time with this group has reinforced the notion that you really are the average of the people you spend the most time with, and while I'm lucky to meet amazing people every week through London Real, I could still be doing better. My goal for this year is to help you, as London Realers and London Real Academy members, upgrade your peer group by facilitating interaction with each other so that you're exposed to people that are going to push you to become better in business and as a person, and hold your ACCOUNTABLE to your goals. Leave me a comment below telling me your goals for the year, how you think you're doing, and whether or not your peer group is really helping you achieve them. MAGNUS WALKER - PORSCHE HUNTER
For Magnus Walker an obsession with the Porsche 911 started back in 1977 at the Earl's Court Motor Show. Since, he's become the world's most prolific collector, film location scout and clothes designer with his flowing dreadlocks, beanie hat and powerful beard. Now based in Los Angeles, Walker was born in Yorkshire. Drawn to an American Dream of sorts he leapt at the opportunity to work at Camp America outside Detroit in 1986. He quickly abandoned Detroit for the west coast, making his way to LA, looking for work. It was there that his career took an unexpected turn. After being able to make a quick profit selling a pair of PVC trousers to a punk rocker, who in turn asked for eight more pairs, he knew America could deliver on it's promise of prosperity in the accidental career choice of clothes design. By the 90s Walker had his own brand, Serious Clothing, championed by the likes of Madonna and Alice Cooper. His other business venture, a film location company, started in a similar way in 2011. After a business called looking to film a music video at his Serious Clothing Warehouse. And where do the Porsches come into this? Well, one never forgets their first love and for Walker, his first love was smell of gasoline and the smooth shaped bodywork of the 911. With business running solidly he could concentrate on his dream, the ultimate Porsche 911 collection. Since then, opportunity has come knocking once again. A documentary, screen-time on Jay Leno's Garage show and the boyhood dream of a visit to Porsche in Stuttgart fulfilled. Magnus Walker's story is the real story of finding opportunity and running with it. Watch it, this Sunday, on London Real.

Marc Goodman - Future Crimes
Marc Goodman is a thinker, writer and global strategist exploring what criminality and terrorism could look like in the close future. With technology advancing at exponential rates, it becomes an open opportunity platform for those within our international society that would seek to threaten others. All are realistic threats, from global crime networks stealing your identity to hidden terror cells 3D printing AK-47 rifle and drones. Marc is asking the questions out loud, and bringing some answers. How open are these amazing breakthrough technologies, robotics, AI, social data, synthetic biology to manipulation? It's a hot topic and Marc's book, Future Crimes, shot straight up the New York Times bestseller list after it's release two months ago. But Marc, of course, isn't just another journalist. He's writing from experience working for Interpol in France. While training police forces from around the world he realised the rising threat of cybercrime and terror - a trend that would only continue as the internet would embed itself into every aspect of life. Actively establishing space for the future crime conversation Marc set-up the Future Crimes Institute, a think-tank organisation committed to informing and educating about the risks of new technologies. He's also continually writing for the academics at Harvard and Oxford, while also getting the message out to the population in the likes of Wired magazine. Today on London Real, take a journey to the frontline of cyber warfare and crime. FUTURE CRIMES The Book: http://bit.ly/1z81rS5
