When you lose something important like your keys or your cell phone, you know how to find it because you know what it looks like. But sometimes in life, we don’t know what we’re looking for until we see it. Maybe it’s the just-right gift for someone at Christmas, maybe it’s that perfect person who will be “the one,” or maybe it’s a side of God you aren’t expecting to see.   Whether it’s fulfillment, peace, purpose, worth, meaning, admiration, security or success, we’re all looking for something. God wants you to know what it is so you can recognize it when you see it. Even if the voices you hear the loudest say otherwise, God chose you. Just like he chose the shepherds in Bethlehem, the young boys and girls who were guarding their sheep by night, God has chosen you to deliver a message. The end of the year has probably found you tired, spent and needing a break. When things get hard, or even busier with the holidays, you may even be tempted to quit. Peace is found in the gift of God’s presence but we can also create peace with ours. Jesus said in Matthew 5:9 that when we work for peace, we become children of God. This message will teach you how mutual respect, celebrated uniqueness and shared values can create peace among people. This message also explains the difference between peace and unity. Because a call for unity that asks everyone to agree, assimilate or think the same is a call for conformity, not unity. There is a war for peace and it’s happening within your mind, specifically in the stronghold spot that is primed for battle. Who you let occupy that space will determine how much peace you find. (Hint: the enemy who seeks to kill, steal, destroy and divide is trying to root himself in that place. But Jesus has given you another option.) Among the chaos, division and noise in the world right now, it’s easy to get wrapped up in anxiety, hopelessness and the promise of peace attached to one political outcome. You can live your truth, doing what you can do and giving what you have capacity to give. OR you can live in God’s reality, where your time, energy and finances can be multiplied through Him. Being decent humans doesn’t require us to need God, but loving people who are hard to love and giving out of our lack does. Luke 6 helps us step into God’s reality, where the blessings are poured out. There’s a lot of information, misinformation and disinformation in the media. It can be hard to know what’s true, what’s a blatant lie and what’s only almost true.
