Then at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he moved through the ranks by attaining tenure, becoming a full professor in engineering, and later serving as the associate dean of the Lally School of Management and Technology. It was at Rensselaer that he discovered a passion for academic leadership and building partnerships across disciplines, also bringing an entrepreneurial spirit to his work. He was the 23rd President of Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., a military institution, and, as such, serves as the Commanding General of the Vermont State Militia. In this episode of The EdUp Experience, we welcome Dr. Andrew Flagel, President of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metro Area.  Andrew began his appointment on July 13, 2020 in the midst of the CV-19 crisis.  Hear him talk about how the 17 universities of the consortia work together for the common good.  The value in this episode is how Andrew breaks down the value in a consortium agreement and gives other institutions a breakdown of collaborative pathways that could underpin new models in higher education.  The Consortium has one of the oldest and most robust course-sharing collaborations in the country. It provides a unified voice on behalf of its members to local and regional governments, as well as to business/industry and other organizations by serving as a single point of contact, by participating on boards and as members of organizations, and through convenings.
