Sickboy
CBC
Sickboy is the only place where terminal diagnoses can peacefully coexist with jokes we probably shouldn't make. Hosted by three best friends, Jeremie, Brian, and Taylor, this show smashes taboos around illness, death, and everything in between. Inspired by Jeremie’s life with Cystic Fibrosis, we dive headfirst into the uncomfortable, the hilarious, and the heartbreaking. We talk to people living with everything from chronic disease to catastrophic injury, mental health struggles to medical miracles - and we do it with radical empathy, zero BS, and the kind of unfiltered jokes that get us kicked out of support groups. If you’ve ever felt weird, broken, or like no one gets it, welcome. New episodes drop every Wednesday. Pull up a seat; it’s gonna get real.Follow Sickboy on Instagram & TikTok!

I Had COVID-19. It sucked.
"This week we have a doubleheader. First, we speak to Emily! One of the very first Nova Scotians who was diagnosed with and has now recovered from COVID-19. Spoiler alert, it is no walk in the gosh darn park. Which is exactly why y'all need to #StayTheBlazesHome. Then we chat with Adam Kucharski - an epidemiologist, mathematician, and associate professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where he works on analysis of infectious disease outbreaks. Spoiler alert, he's smart. We talk about the sobering data that is coming out surrounding the virus and what that data tells us about our future.

Stage 4 Breast Cancer?? But Doc, I'm Only 26!
Sarah was one of the unlucky few who was struck with the stark reminder that Breast Cancer does not discriminate based on age. With no family history, an active & healthy lifestyle, and an otherwise clean bill of health… Sarah was definitely a little surprised when, at 26 years old, she heard the words “You have cancer”. From feelin' out the lump to, escaping to Hawaii for some clarity, to kicking the sh*t out of cancer in a no rules bar brawl, Sarah's journey was a big one. Big shout out to our sponsor for this week - Wicked Wiggity Wigs over in Burnside. Be sure to listen right to the end of the episode to hear the wonderful jingle that they produced exclusively for Sickboy Podcast. WIGS!

Busting Myths about COVID-19 w/ Dr Dawn Bowdish
Today on Sickboy, the guys sit down with Dr. Dawn Bowdish, a Canadian immunologist who, according to Wikipedia (and our measly intern Lauren), is a professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. She is also a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Aging & Immunity. She is known for several discoveries including the immunomodulatory properties of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37, how MARCO signalling complex recognizes Mycobacterium tuberculosis, age-associated inflammation and its effects on clearing pneumococcal pneumonia and how the ageing gut microbiome drives age-associated inflammation.... basically, she knows a hell of a lot more than we do. This is why we asked her to chat with us about COVID-19! Check it out!
