How can we have a healthy relationship with social media, with Niomi Smart
There are nearly 3.5billion active social media users, and every 6.4 seconds a new account has been created. Many of us use our smartphones as companions. We update our friends, work colleagues and acquaintances on our daily movements and memorable moments in our lives. At its core, social media is a powerful communication tool that has changed how individuals interact with one another. It speeds up how people exchange and share information, thoughts, and ideas across virtual networks. However, social media does have downsides. Some evidence suggests that its use in particular, its overuse — can negatively affect mental health in numerous ways. In today's episode I speak to Niomi Smart, content creator, vlogger and the founder of Smart Skin. With a global following of more than 4.6 million across her digital and social media platforms, Niomi has spent all of her adult life navigating social media. We explore if it is possible to form a healthy relationship with social media and why this has been fundamental for Niomi. Dirt Poor - why has our food become less nutritious with Geologist, Dr David Thomas
Most food science focuses on the chemical content of what we eat. Only a few decades ago, little was known about the presence and importance of trace elements. Dr David Thomas research has focused the importance and presence of trace elements, and if this is affecting our overall health.
Today we certainly have a number of environmental challenges that were not there just a few generations ago. The quality of every essential component that enables us to function at an optimum level has been compromised: the sunlight, the air, our water and our food. In this episode, David shares his expert knowledge on our food quality today.

Meditation instead of Medication with Cornelius O'Shaughnessy
Meditation is a word we hear a lot today to help calm our minds and deal with daily stressors, but many of us still struggle to grasp it. How powerful is meditation and how can we take the first step?
To kick off the first episode of series six, I invited Be Well Collective's meditation expert Cornelius O'Shaughnessy, to take us through his personal journey and a guided meditation.
Having suffered from severe treatment-resistant depression and anxiety since he was 15, Cornelius began to explore alternative ways at managing the condition. He learnt some meditation techniques and they helped to a degree, but they didn’t seem to resolve his depression. It wasn’t until Cornelius began to travel to India and explore the ancient teachings about the mind that were traditionally taught alongside the practice that my state of mind began to shift in a meaningful way. After some years of searching, he came across a very powerful and ancient set of teachings that brought the practice to a new level. Shortly afterwards Cornelius depression and anxiety came to an end. I then began to teach others what I have learned.
This episode is finished on a 10 minute guided meditation by Cornelius.

When clean eating goes to far with Dr Rachel Evans
What often starts with the pursuit of ‘healthy’ eating, can turn into a very restrictive lifestyle and damaging consequences, resulting in nutrient deficiency, malnutrition and severe anxiety around food.
Orthorexia is based on behaviours that are ‘unhealthy’ or ‘obsessive’ around food. Understandably, orthorexia can be difficult too diagnose as we see a rise in the pursuit of healthy eating.
In today's episode I speak to Dr Rachel Evans, a chartered psychologist and has herself suffered from orthorexia and bulimia. Rachel speaks from her personal experience of her eating disorder and may be triggering for some people.

How to stop the clock on the ageing process Dr Catharine Denning
How can we look younger? We all want to know the answer to this surely? Age is a natural part of life and it’s something we all ultimately have to face. However, are there things which we can do to help with our ageing process? We regularly face primary challenges in deciding what to do to maintain young and healthy skin, but what really works?
To help me explore this further, I speak to Dr Catharine Denning. Catharine is a GMC registered medical doctor with over seven years of medical expertise. She has a background in anatomy, research and plastic surgery and is passionate in promoting the importance of practicing only safe, evidence-based medicine and actively encourages this mindset in the industry.

Are we being fooled by food labels with Jenny Rosborough
We all believe we have a choice when it comes to choosing healthy food options, but do we really? Is our choice merely a small selection of what it chosen to be put in front of our eyes in the limited selection available to us?
Seducing claims and health halos such as ‘natural’, ‘superfood’ and ‘low fat’ lead many of us to overestimate how healthy a food is, and it can discourage us to look at the nutritional labelling. Are many of us aware of what labels really mean? How can we understand sugars on food labels and are natural sugars any better for us?
To explore fact from fiction, I speak to Jenny Rosborough on how we can take back the power and confidence in knowing what we are eating.
