The Curve
The Curve Platform
The Curve is a platform to learn more about money. To change the stereotype that these conversations are typically boring, and only for men in suits. Victoria has worked in the finance and investing world for 13 years, and Sophie is a total novice. Learn alongside her as she asks all the questions you're thinking, but might feel a little embarrassed to ask. This podcast will give you all the tools and knowledge to achieve financial freedom, as well as (hopefully) having a laugh along the way.

TCW52: Everyone wants a piece of Stanley.
We all know that size doesn’t (or shouldn’t) matter – but when it comes to Stanley, the world is suddenly going wild for his big old jumbo cups. We talk about incredible rebrands, the perks of going viral, and whether a surge in demand equals a solid investment opportunity. We also look at China’s downward spiral, the power of the Magnificent Seven (the seven biggest companies in the world) and the joys of being loudly and proudly frugal. Plus, Vic has never looked hotter and Soph is suddenly into diggers. Go figure. Watch the episode on YouTube. RTC99: Self-sabotage, people pleasing and setting boundaries with Dr Rebecca Ray.
WHY ARE BOUNDARIES SO HARD? Why is it so awkward to say we can’t afford something? Why do we carry so much guilt and fear and shame around saying, ‘No, actually, that won’t work for me’? In today’s episode, we are lucky enough to ask these questions (and many, many more) to the international queen of boundaries, Rebecca Ray. As a clinical psychologist, renowned speaker and author of two incredible books, Dr Becks is an absolute weapon when it comes to then when, how and why of putting our own needs first. From honouring internal boundaries to un-learning years of people pleasing, from fears of rejection to perfectionism and self-sabotage – Dr Becks sees it, knows it and tells it like is. Epiphany after epiphany, this episode gets right to the core of who we are as humans. Watch interview on YouTube. TCW51: All hail Sir Lord King Warren Buffett!
As the NZ summer’s getting hotter and hotter (Soph’s sweating, Vic’s doused in perfume) Google’s going ice-cold, announcing even more employee cuts to come this year. We look at the reason behind the layoffs and how this could have a positive effect on inflation (although we really don’t want you to be fired). And while Google has too many people, China’s facing the opposite problem. While a rapidly shrinking population may sound like a good thing (hello, happier environment) it could also come at a cost. Oh, and our favourite man in all the land, His Majesty Warren Buffett, is out there making big sexy finance moves, and Sheryl Sandberg has decided to gracefully lean out. Not bad for a hot Monday morning! For more from The Curve:InstagramWebsiteTikTokNewsletter Disclaimer: Raising The Curve has been prepared solely for informational and educational purposes. RTC98: What women want (to search online) with Diem founder, Emma Bates
This week we’re talking to the brilliantly clever, honest and inspiring Emma Bates – co-founder of Diem, the new social search engine for women and non-binary folk. She also happens to be Vic’s sister’s husband’s brother’s partner (it’s closer than it sounds, we promise). She’s pitched to hundreds of potential investors to raise more than $3.5million, navigated the US banking collapse, the cost of living in New York, all while working insanely hard with the aim to earn as much money as humanly possible. Revolutionary, driven and passionate, Emma is a delightful force to be reckoned with. Amazing human, amazing chat, amazing things ahead for DIEM! Watch interview on YouTube. TCW50: Broken planes, bee stings and big old K-holes.
No matter how hard you try to ease into the new year, sometimes things just don’t go your way. Soph went to a silent retreat and got hit by a flying log, Vic went on a sexy hike and got a nasty bee sting, and Boeing sent a plane across the skies … and lost part of it mid-flight. We talk about the effect this could have on their share price, investor confidence and their reputation as a whole. We also look at a recent billion-dollar dating app investment, the latest way to buy Bitcoin, and Elon Musk’s naughty after-hours activities (and what it could mean for his CEO status). 15 days in, and 2024 is already giving serious drama. RTC97: Getting out of 100,000 worth of debt with Liz Gillette.
In today’s episode, we’re talking to the incredible Liz Gillette – a bad-ass financial advisor who, in her teenage and young adult years, experienced more than her fair share of money troubles. From watching her family home get repossessed to walking out of college with a monumental debt to pay, Liz’s financial journey has not been an easy one. We sat down with Liz to talk about the slippery slope of debt, the importance of communication, leaving judgement at the door and respecting your partner’s choices (even if it’s golf). Heart-breaking, inspiring and unflinchingly honest, this is a must-listen for everyone out there. Watch interview on YouTube.
