They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:17 “‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.” (Matthew 11: 16-19) Woe on Unrepentant Towns20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e] For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” (Matthew 11: 20-24)The Father Revealed in the Son25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. 27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. How To Deal with Doubts (Matthew 11: 2-6)
Send us Fan MailHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comHow To Deal with Doubts (Matthew 11:2-6) IntroductionHave you ever doubted your faith. Unbelievers throw all kinds of challenges at Christianity and Christians, they question it, they attack it but that’s not what I’m talking about. Have you ever doubted the Christian faith, as a believer have you ever questioned if Jesus Christ really the son of God is, or that he is the Messiah of the Old Testament as presented in the New Testament. Maybe you think that kind of thing that only happens to young Christians or those who haven’t been brought up in a Christian family. They might have a temptation to doubt that truthfulness of Christianity but could that happen to somebody who is a seasoned mature servant of Jesus Christ. Can an older Christian all of a sudden begin to doubt the truthfulness of Christianity. The startling answer to that question is yes. As a matter of fact, once in the life of Christ there is an incident where Jesus said one of the greatest prophets who ever lived doubted that Jesus was the Messiah. Let’s see how did Jesus handle that and how should we handle it in our own lives and in the life of someone else who may bring that question up.2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” 4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”7 As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Send us Fan MailHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comHow to Get a Prophets Reward – Part 2 (Matthew 10:40-43)The whole closing part of this chapter is about Jesus putting together his final advise following the commissioning of these 12 men as his disciples and sending them out in his name with the message of Gods Messiah initially to the nation of Israel. Concluding by saying there going to be some who will not receive it and fact will oppose and persecute you. But also there are going to be some who are going to receive both the message but also that they will receive you as Gods ambassador meaning they’re going to help and support you. An additional point Jesus them made was to say that anyone who receives this message will receive the same reward that the deliver of that message will receive, be they prophet, evangelist, or preacher. receive. How Does Christ Bring Division.(Matthew 10: 32-40)
Send us Fan MailHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comHow Does Christ Bring Division. (Matthew 10: 32-40) Introduction.Last time we learnt that God is in control and therefore we need never feel alone, and we should remember that God. He has counted the number of hairs on you head so he is in control. That is why we can put up with all the troubles of this world because we know that underneath God is in control and God cares about us. But then all of a sudden, he says in verse 32 it takes an unusual turn.“Therefore, whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 10: 32-33)Heavenly Rewards.I Do Not Come To Bring Peace But a Sword.“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword”. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’, and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ (Matthew 10: 34-36) He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. Why Put Up with the Life of a Disciple (Matthew 10: 24-31)
Send us Fan MailHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comWhy Put up with the life of a disciple (Matthew 10:24-31) The Life of a Disciple. You would think that serving the Lord would always be enjoyable, it is after all working for a wonderful boss who is gracious and generous, and all of that’s true. In reality having served the Lord for decades virtually all of my adult life I have found that to generally be true. However, there’s another side of serving the Lord because the work can be difficult. Serving the Lord can involve suffering as well. It’s sort of like well to use Jesus’ own analogy sending sheep out among wolves when he sent out the 12 apostles, he gave them some instruction warning them that their call to service might involves suffering. He even told them that they might suffer persecution from religious leaders, civic leaders, even family members. He told them that some would be arrested even a whipping was possible, and of course he said they would be hated by everybody. “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. (Matthew 10: 24)We need to pause right away; he’s saying in this verse you are the student the and the servant and so don’t think that you’re somehow going to be above the teacher or the owner of the slave. In those days they treated the teachers the way a servant treated a master. But you should not expect any better treatment than they will give your master and leader. In the next verse he gets more specific he says in verse 25. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house ]Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!(Matthew 10: 25)Therefore, do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed and hidden that will not be known. (Matthew 10: 26)Do Not Fear. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10: 27) And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. The Reason the Christian Church is Persecuted. (Matthew 10: 19-23)
Send us Fan MailHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comThe Reason the Christian Church is Persecuted. (Matthew 10: 19-23)Recap and Introduction. We saw last time in its treatment of slaves, the Christian Church seemed to the Roman authorities a force which was disrupting their civilization and threatening the very existence of the Roman Empire by giving slaves a position which they should never have had, as Roman law saw it. There is no doubt that Christianity seriously affected certain vested interests connected with the Roman religion. This passage now, suggests another way in which the Christian believer might face opposition and it is unpacked for us, beginning at verse 19.But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak . “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you”. (Matthew 10: 20-21))An example from the life of Moses.10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”11 So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore, go, and I will be your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” (Exodus 4: 10-12) “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. . And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10: 21-22)Let me make just a couple of points here, because he’s still saying, “don’t worry”. However, you need to notice that earlier you were going to be set before the religious leaders but then it also mentioned that you might also be delivered up to civic leaders.23 When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. 18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
