As a consequence, God explains to them that their relationship is not going to work as it was designed. We are in a cultural moment where there’s a battle over our inheritance and our national story. There’s one narrative that wants honor, preserve, and live more fully from what we’ve received from our founding fathers. To forgive them for their faults but also thank them for the inheritance they gave us and try to live up to it. There’s another narrative that’s about distancing ourselves from and criticizing our fathers and rejecting our inheritance, which just perpetuates the fatherlessness and orphanhood in our culture. We need to come back to the Father. And we need good fathers. We need reconciliation between the generations to see honor and life flowing again, but that begins with reconciliation to the Father. We often say that each person is made in the image of God. This is true. But if you look at this verse, you have God describing Himself in the plural--let US--and then making mankind in the plural--male and female--as his image.
