Safeway Open Round 3 Recap / Round 4 Preview: Anyone can win on Sunday! (9/12)

The PGA Tour has played three rounds at the Safeway Open, we’re chatting about it on today’s episode of The First Cut Podcast… Literally anyone can win this thing tomorrow. 17 golfers will start the final round within 3 shots of the lead. Cameron Percy, Brian Stuard and James Hahn all co-lead, but their odds to win on Sunday are short (0:10). A pair of ultra young guns also find themselves at the top of the leaderboard. Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala are pithing reach of career altering wins. What are the odds these young players can make a move on Sunday (8:15)? We wrap with our final picks for tomorrow. Pretty much anyone can win with a low score on Sunday, who is worth a wager (14:25)? —————————Check us out on YouTube for video podcasts and exclusive content, visit https://www.youtube.com/FirstCutPodcast'First Cut' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Follow @FirstCutPod on Twitter and InstagramFollow our hosts on Twitter: @KylePorterCBS, @mark_immelman, @RickRunGood, @therealGFDFor more golf coverage from CBS Sports, visit https://www.cbssports.com/golf/To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Safeway Open Round 2 Recap / Round 3 Preview: Jordan Spieth misses cut (9/11)

Round 2 of the Safeway Open is in the books. On today’s episode of The First Cut we’re chatting about… Leader Sam Burns holds two shots over the next competitor. He’s a proven winner on the Korn Ferry Tour, is ready for a first PGA Tour win (0:55)? Harry Higgs is golf twitter’s darling son. He gave the community a great gift today when he made albatross to close out his round to move into solo 2nd. Is that amazing shot going to be a reason to be skeptical when it comes to betting him this weekend (4:43)?  Jordan Spieth was on pace to make the cut until he reached his final hole of the day, that’s when a double bogey sent him home early. What needs to change for the former No. 1 player in the world to return back to golf’s upper echelon (10:24). Phil Mickelson cobbled together a made cut after looking a little shaky on Thursday. With roughly 30% of fairways hit, it’s safe to assume his game won’t hold up at Winged Foot. That still isn’t stopping one bettor from dropping $45,000 wager on Lefty to win next week (17:00). We wrap by taking a look toward the third round and determining our favorite picks for the weekend (22:50). The First Cut Podcast is back after a long one day off season. We’re chatting about the Safeway Open among other things on today’s episode… It’s a crowded leaderboard in Napa Valley, who has the most staying power among the leaders? Phil Mickelson has somehow put together a round under par. What’s our confidence in him as we start to peak ahead to the U.S. Open. Jordan Spieth… oh Jordan. The first round of his 2021 season has not begun under ideal terms. Kyle Porter laments about the situation. Akshay Bhatia, Andy Zhang and Sahith Theegala offer some youthful injection into this week’s tournament. We wrap with a little chat about Brooks Koepka’s surprise withdrawal from the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.
