Tax Basics for E-commerce Businesses with Jarrod Souza

A lot goes into starting, maintaining, and supporting a successful e-commerce business. That's why I am excited to share an expert with you who exclusively works with e-commerce brands as a fractional CFO. Jarrod Souza has over eight years of experience serving as a CFO for direct consumer brands in the e-commerce space. His extensive knowledge of data and marketing analytics helped one of the companies he worked with grow from four million to forty million dollars in four years. While serving in his last role as the CFO at Michael Hyatt and Company, he felt led to start his own firm, so he founded CFO Expertise to provide fractional CFO services to e-commerce brands. He primarily works with companies doing between three and twenty million dollars in top-line revenue and are looking to scale, but they don't know what levers they need to pull to achieve that. In our conversation, we talk about sales taxes, key metrics that you need to look out for, what to expect if you want to start a product-based business, and how to focus your energy to ensure optimal success. Whether you currently have a product-based business, you're thinking of starting a new one, or you just want to gain more perspective on the businesses that you interact with as a customer, you will find great value in this conversation. * Connect with Jarrod on his website: cfoexpertise.com * Questions about this episode? Growing Your Business Without a Big Following with Lindsey Schwartz

There is a lot of advice out there right now about recurring revenue, and I am one of the sources of it. When considering your options for recurring revenue, you may be tempted to opt for a source that is considered to be stable, such as a membership. Memberships can be very rewarding, but they also come with a lot of responsibilities. I am excited for you to hear from Lindsey Schwartz on this topic. She shares her first-hand experience with cultivating a strong membership and community so that you will know what you are signing up for if you decide to create a membership. Lindsey is a best-selling author and the founder of Powerhouse Women, which provides a network for women who feel like they are meant for more. She is fiercely committed to supporting other women. She invests her time in mentoring women and girls of all ages, from high-achieving entrepreneurs to high school students. She is also an investor in female-founded companies, including beverage brand Lite Pink. After seeing numerous women in her life stop short of pursuing their own entrepreneurial dreams because of fear and self-doubt, she saw the need for more honest conversations about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship in order to show women that they don't have to have it all together to get started. From there, the Powerhouse Women community, annual event, and podcast were born, with the motto that we're not meant to do business (or life) alone! * Learn more about Powerhouse Women here: www.powerhousewomenevent.com * Listen to Powerhouse Women podcast - available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify * Find Lindsey on IG @llindseyschwartz and @powerhouse_women * Questions about this episode? Why I Tell Clients Not to Pay Tax Estimates

I have a non-traditional belief about quarterly taxes that I share in this episode. I share how I feel about quarterly estimates and what I often recommend to clients. My intent behind sharing this is not to tell you what to do, but to make you aware that there are different ways to think about things. This is one of the more fun things about working in taxes and accounting. We're given a set of guidelines to follow but we get to interpret those guidelines and apply our own approach. * Questions about this episode? Building a Sales Process with Jason Weinstein

This is a really special episode because we are welcoming my husband, Jason, onto the show. Jason graduated with a degree in entrepreneurship, labor relations, and strategy from McGill University in Montreal. Soon after he graduated and started working, he decided that he would rather build a business that did things better than was currently available. He opened Budget Dry Waterproofing, which has grown from Jason working in his basement, to a business with over 25 employees and over $40M in total sales. Jason is a past president of the Basement Health Association and has served as a mentor and a volunteer for various organizations. However, the endeavor he is most proud of is developing his employees and making a difference in their lives. One of the skills that Jason was really lucky to have developed at a young age is sales ability. He has continued learning through the years and has been able to collect advice from multiple generations. He has seen how the sales landscape has evolved and knows that underneath it all, it doesn't matter if you're selling online or you're selling home improvement services, it's the same psychology and concepts. I know you'll relate to all the knowledge he has to share even if your type of business is vastly different than his. * Questions about this episode?
