A Thousand Natural Shocks With Gabe S. Dunn
Gabe Dunn | Diamond MPrint Productions
After years of attempting to "girlboss" his way out of systemic class divide, Gabriel Shane Dunn, now a trans man and veteran podcaster, relaunches his show, “Bad With Money,” with a furious, funny, and deeply personal exploration of surviving our capitalist hellscape. Ditching conventional finance advice, “A Thousand Natural Shocks,” is a companion show to Gabe’s thriving newsletter of the same name. This isn't just about money; it's about breaking free from the individualistic lies and fighting for collective liberation. Capitalism is killing us. The police state is killing us. Fascism is killing us. But we can no longer feel helpless. We can resist.Send a question or voice memo to GabeIsBadWithMoney@gmail.com.

The History and Future of Dress Codes
In response to MANY emails from you all, Gaby delves into the classist and racist background of the work dress code. First, they interview reporter Amanda Mull who is the author of the article "After The Pandemic, The Office Dress Code Should Never Come Back." What should you wear to work? How was business casual invented? What will we wear post-Covid? Then, Gaby interviews Stanford professor Rich Ford, author of the history of fashion tome "Dress Codes: How The Laws of Fashion Made History." Ford gives the history of "proper dress" from the 1300s until today's lawsuits about Black women's hairstyles, trans peoples' work clothes, gendered school uniforms, and all the ways that dress codes affect work. Plus, a personal story about Gaby's history with dress codes and shoplifting.
This episode includes a conversation with Black author Rich Ford about anti-Black racism and use of terms that may be troubling. Please take care while listening.

Money, Misinformation, Crime & Conspiracy
Welcome to Season 8! This season we're doing things a little differently: each episode, we're going to talk to both experts and to friends of mine with lived experience in the same topic. Get to know me, get to know my buddies from my real life! Our first topic is monetizing fake news, data voids, and how ads work for Facebook and Google misinformation. Gaby talks to MIT Review reporter Abby Ohlheiser about how people make millions of dollars -- merch, speaker fees, Patreons, etc. -- by spreading misinformation. Then, Gaby interviews their friends Ali Segel and Melissa Stetten, co-hosts of the conspiracy theory podcast Web Crawlers, about ethically profiting from crime and conspiracy. Plus, why Flat Earthers are ~the worst!~
This episode includes discussion of suicide, child porn, cults, police, Alex Jones, transphobia, medical conspiracies, and conspiracies surrounding school shootings. Please take care while listening.

The LGBTQ Economy: MV Lee Badgett
Happy Pride! In the finale of Season 7, Gaby talks to professor, economist and author Lee Badgett about the financial and economic case for LGBTQ equality, the harmful myths about queer people and money (and the choice to focus all research on white, cis, gay men), and about Gaby's own reticence to engage with ending homophobia and transphobia through capitalism and corporate policy. It's a doozy of differing opinions! And in the end, it's probably all Will & Grace's fault. Then, a Dear Gaby with some Bad With Money book promotion and some interesting criticism AND love for Gaby's voice. Send an email to gabyisbadwithmoney@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 844-474-4040.
This episode contains discussions of homophobia, transphobia, bullying, and suicide. Please take care while listening.

Happiness & Money: Dr. Laurie Santos
Dr. Laurie Santos joins Gaby to discuss NOT whether money buys happiness (it does!) but rather what science shows us we should also be focusing on for happiness, why the human brain is designed to be bad with money, and what happened when monkeys were taught to buy treats with currency. Also, the curse of the lottery. Then, on Dear Gaby, a listener writes in about receiving a raise after discovering gender pay inequity at work and how she is using it for good. And, listener Casey calls in to ask about ethically investing an unexpected inheritance.

Building Wealth: Hillary Hoffower
This week, Gaby and Hillary Hoffower, the Millennial wealth correspondent for Business Insider, talk about building and maintaining wealth, new rural home-buying, and the solitary leisure investment hobbies of the nostalgic rich. PS: It's the pogs and Tamagotchis for me. Then, during Dear Gaby, a listener shares their acceptance into a teaching and Masters program and how they met their goals during the pandemic by focusing on the specifics. And finally, a VERY interesting email about work dress codes and if they are equitable, ethical and financially feasible. Do you have a work dress code? Do you think it's fair?
