"Morning Air" delved into the harrowing aftermath of the Kansas City shooting that erupted amidst Super Bowl victory festivities.  This unexpected turn from euphoria to despair, following a dispute that ended in gunfire, has left many searching for answers and solace. Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves' assurance that this was not an act of terrorism does little to take away the grief of a community in mourning, especially when you consider the victims, whose ages span from 8 to 47, with many being under the age of 16. In these moments of collective heartache, Rhonda Stark joined John Morales to reflect on the senseless violence that has once again touched innocent lives. It's so easy to get numb when we hear about these stories, but we must always take time to pray and grieve. Rhonda's focus on the likely backgrounds of those who perpetrate such acts—a lack of love, stability, and a sense of belonging—speaks to the power of the Catholic faith, family, and community. Your job as a parent matters so much because you are giving your children a safe and stable upbringing that so many don't have.  Her advice to you, as you're grappling with how to address this tragedy with your children, was to remember the importance of age-appropriate discussions, and the necessity of providing a secure space for your children to express their fears and questions. Her emphasis on strategic planning for safety in public spaces, while not allowing fear to overshadow our lives, is something to really consider.  But perhaps what might strike you the most were her final thoughts on taking actionable steps towards healing. She encouraged you to connect with those affected through platforms like Childrens Mercy, reminding you that even the smallest gesture of sending a message of hope can ripple through a community in need of comfort. In prayer and solidarity, we stand with Kansas City, united in our hope and prayer for a future where celebrations are never again marred by such tragedies.

The Kansas City Chiefs are certainly thrilled to take home another Super Bowl victory, but the city now mourns the loss of life because of the shooting that happened at the team celebration parade. It's absolutely heartbreaking to hear this news, and John Morales talks with team chaplain Fr. Richard Rocha, amidst the swirl of victory and sorrow.  Heartache Hits Home: Just when the victory parade was pumping up Chiefs Kingdom, tragedy struck. Fr. Father Kubicki encourages listeners to make a spiritual retreat as part of the lenten practice of prayer, and shares what we can do if we cannot make a spiritual retreat away from home.
