Week 3 Preview: Tyrod's punctured lung & the real reason Russ hasn't received an MVP vote

The NFL season has entered its third week, yet the coronavirus does not quit. A friendly reminder from the Yahoo Sports NFL Podcast to keep wearing your mask. A reminder from the league apparently didn't land with coaches Jon Gruden and Sean Payton, who were both personally fined $100,000 after not properly masking up during the New Orleans Saints' Monday night loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night.Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson kick off the mid-week pod discussing the fines doled out to multiple coaches for the mask policy, if the 2-0 Raiders are for real and if it's time to worry about the 1-1 Saints. Staying in the AFC West, news came out on Wednesday that the reason for Tyrod Taylor's chest pains, which led to Justin Herbert's first start for the Los Angeles Chargers, was a team doctor accidentally puncturing Taylor's lung with a pre-game injection. Charles & Terez dive into this strange medical story and the legal ramifications it could have for the Chargers. (16:10)Our experts also discuss the strange case of the MetLife Stadium turf, where the San Francisco 49ers lost Nick Bosa, Jimmy Garoppolo, Raheem Mostert and more to injury last Sunday while visiting the New York Jets. What does it mean that the NFLPA backed the 49er's complaint about the playing surface? (27:10)There has been quite a TV & internet hullabaloo lately that Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has never garnered a single MVP vote in his eight-year career. Charles, an MVP voter, explains the very justifiable reason why. (32:00)Finally, the guys close out the show previewing a trio key matchups to look forward to in Week 3: Kansas City at Baltimore (40:55), the Los Angeles Rams at Buffalo (49:30) and Dallas at Seattle (58:00).Stay up to date with the latest NFL news and coverage from Yahoo Sports on Twitter @YahooSportsNFL.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonFollow Terez @TerezPaylorTag your questions for the guys on Twitter with #YahooNFLPodcastCheck out the rest of the Yahoo Sports Podcast family at https://apple.co/2Abi8jk or at yahoosports.com/podcasts See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

The guys tell you if this year's batch of rumors carry any weight.OBJ wasn't the only wideout to claim the trade rumor spotlight this week. (14:55)One of the biggest stories of the weekend was how the league and its players addressed the fight for social justice. From a video that used the likeness of Colin Kaepernick that Eric Reid called, "diabolical," to the apparent boos from Kansas City fans on Thursday night, Terez & Charles break down the messy rollout of this new campaign. (25:15)In the second half of the show, the guys look ahead to preview the Week 2 matchups. A number of 0-1 teams play each other this week. 2020 season preview, plus will the Saints go all-in on Clowney?

In seven days, the 2020 NFL season kicks off in Kansas City as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs face off against Deshaun Watson and the Texans. We can’t believe it either.Charles Robinson & Terez Paylor devote the majority of the podcast to previewing the 2020 season. Who will win each division? Who will the three (yes, three) wild card teams be from each conference? Our experts weigh in on the AFC (4:15) followed by the NFC (28:40).On Thursday night, reports surfaced that the New Orleans Saints could be interested in making a move for free agent defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. Terez & Charles talk about why going all-in on Clowney means the Saints are going all-in for a Super Bowl in 2020. (1:01:05)As a special treat, the guys close out the show with an even more special guest. He defiantly stood up to a skeptical government board and spoke out against the cruelest of evils. Yes, Ander Christensen went viral this week imploring the city of Lincoln, Nebraska to call boneless wings what they really are: chicken tenders. Ander joins the pod to talk about his crazy week and his fight for proper chicken meat nomenclature. It’s the interview of the millennium. Alvin Kamara's trade potential and Leonard Fournette landing spots

With the NFL season less than 10 days away, there's been a flurry of transactions and stories as the league and country face the reality that, yes, indeed the NFL season is going to happen very soon. Buckle up and get your fantasy teams drafted -- it's going to be a wild season. The headline on Tuesday was a tweet from Josina Anderson reporting that the New Orleans Saints may be open to trading their star running back Alvin Kamara. Could he really be on the move or is it more posturing between the two sides trying to negotiate a new contract for the elite combo back (2:10)Additionally, the Jacksonville Jaguars parted ways with running back Leonard Fournette. Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson talk about where things went wrong between Fournette and the Jags and speculate on a number of possible landing spots for the former fourth overall pick. (11:30)The Jaguars certainly had an active few days as they also dealt disgruntled DE Yannick Ngakoue to the Minnesota Vikings for a pair of future draft picks. What does this mean for the Jaguars' long-term future as well as the Minnesota Vikings in a very winnable NFC North? (32:00)On the coronavirus front, the league briefly got down to one player on the Reserve/COVID list before another four players tested positive last week, including Fred Warner, the San Francisco 49ers' young standout linebacker. Charles & Terez talk about how the league is walking a very fine line in regards to the pandemic as training camps end and teams transition into regular season play. (40:35)Finally, the guys close out the episode discussing the fourth episode of Hard Knocks, which focused heavily on the Rams and Chargers players and staff reacting to the shooting of Jacob Blake. Thoughts on Kenosha, Wisconsin & the NBA walk-out

Terez Paylor & Charles Robinson lay down their thoughts on another difficult week in America after Jacob Blake, a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin was shot multiple times by police, followed by the ensuing murder of two protesters by an out-of-state member who appeared to have been aided by local police. On Wednesday, the Milwaukee Bucks did not take the court for their first-round playoff game against the Orlando Magic in protest of these events, and soon the rest of the NBA's remaining teams followed suit with the full slate of games on Wednesday and Thursday being postponed. A number of MLB games were also rescheduled and many NFL teams have cancelled their practices in the last 24 hours. While discussing how this may affect the NFL in two weeks when the season kicks off in Kansas City, Terez shares a personal story about why these issues are so important and how a mundane occurrence that might seem trivial to most is potentially dangerous for Black men and women in America.Follow Charles @CharlesRobinsonFollow Terez @TerezPaylorTag your questions for the guys on Twitter with #YahooNFLPodcastCheck out the rest of the Yahoo Sports Podcast family at https://apple.co/2Abi8jk or at yahoosports.com/podcasts See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. 📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

Earl Thomas to Dallas isn't set in stone & NFL reacts to weekend of false positive tests

Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson kick off this episode recapping Tuesday night's episode of Hard Knocks that saw little new insight or action aside from a beautiful in-person view of SoFi Stadium, the new $5 billion dollar home to the Rams and Chargers.Moving onto some very strange news in the continuation of the offseason's major storyline, the return to play amid a global pandemic -- a whopping 77 league-wide coronavirus tests were deemed to be false positives over the weekend. Though clubs and league executives can safely breathe a sigh of relief after this event, the guys explain why this situation is a good thing for overall league preparedness. (12:40)Additionally over the weekend, the Baltimore Ravens released All-Pro safety Earl Thomas after an altercation with a teammate. Charles & Terez explain why many teams will be reluctant to sign the star defender and why the Dallas Cowboys, who had long been linked with S Jamal Adams over the offseason, shouldn't be perceived as the odds-on favorite to land Thomas. (19:45)Staying in Dallas, owner Jerry Jones made comments on Tuesday outlining the team's "new" policy for how they would handle national anthem protests...except for the new policy isn't new at all. The guys explain why Jerry and other hardline owners against players kneeling for the anthem would be better suited just letting the players do what they want. (35:00)Later, Terez & Charles talk about Roger Goodell's appearance on Emmanuel Acho's "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man," (41:30) before wrapping up the show with a little fantasy talk about the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers. Kraft's prostitution case gets updated, Chiefs ban Native American headwear & the possibility of bubble NFL playoffs

We know 2020 has been a long year, but if you can think all the way back to the scandal of February 2019, you may remember Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two counts of soliciting prostitution at a spa in Florida. Eighteen months later, a Florida appeals court has ruled the video evidence of Kraft and other suspects inadmissible under the fourth amendment. Terez Paylor and Charles Robinson provide an update on the salacious story and how Kraft's expensive legal team carved a massive legal win for other suspects in the case as well as a class action lawsuit on behalf of innocent spa-goers who were illegally surveilled. Later, Charles & Terez talk about a league conference call in which the idea was floated (and not brushed off) of playing out the 2020 playoffs in a campus or location similar to the NBA's bubble. (13:50)Washington QB Alex Smith turned eyes this week as he made his return to the practice field, two years after a gruesome leg injury in which many doubted if he'd ever play again. The guys talk about his heroic comeback and how he has won, even if he never plays an NFL snap again. (20:35)In Kansas City, the Chiefs announced on Thursday they would no longer permit fans to wear Native American-style headdresses, face paint or similar iconography that appropriates Native American culture. One month after the Washington Football Team ditched their former nickname, is this change enough in Kansas City and how will the fans react? (29:30)Finally, Charles & Terez open the mailbag and discuss the NFL stadiums with the best food.
