SERVING IMPOVERISHED COUNTRIES Importantly, he's also served as a refugee camp doctor in a Rohingya camp. Not many doctors do this, but it was important for Dr. Chaffee. You start a clinic, and you do what you can -- even if it's dangerous, and it is. Part of it is teaching local doctors. NUTRITION FOR ATHLETES Growing up, both Vinnie and Dr. Chaffee heard that if you're an athlete you eat red meat . . . but also carbs. Vinnie realized early on that meat improved performance. Dr. Chaffee, an All-American rugby player, eats a carnivore diet. As an athlete, he saw the difference diet can make on performance and recovery. He has since dedicated much of his practice to nutrition, and now does consultations focusing on low carb and largely carnivorous diets for his patients. So much of it is reducing inflammation. NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS Happy New Year! This is the first Monday of the New Year -- time to commit to your resolutions, no more excuses. For Vinnie, resolutions are about giving up something or doing something positive for his health. Vinnie's resolution is to commit to a project. He thought about building a Porsche, but now it's looking like making a kayak. He wants to be able to say "I made this." It was important for Vinnie to do something new for his resolution this year. Anna loves the book called Your Best Year Yet to look for resolutions. You write down your successes and triumphs as well as your failures, what went wrong, and what you learned from it from the previous year. It helps you determine where your strengths and weaknesses are. Then, pick three paradigms. You might be able to work on patterns. Make your resolution about your health, if you see fit! BUILDING HABITS Most resolutions end in January. So, make sure your goal or resolution is attainable. And understanding setting the goal or resolution is not enough on its own to establish a habit. You can do this -- make sure you're really mentally committing for the whole year. HOLIDAY LIFE INTO LIVING Vinnie's mom, Marie, had surgery several months ago, He went home to take care of her. At the time, she weighed close to 200 lbs. Vinnie had his parents eat NSNG® while he was there, and they enjoyed it more than they thought. Since, they have largely kept up eating healthily -- especially his mom. Vinnie's mom is now down to 135 lbs! This weight loss allowed her For the Christmas show, you might have heard Marie talk about lots of non-NSNG® foods. Vinnie gets it! If he were there, he'd probably have eaten some of the unhealthy foods to a degree. But the next meal, he'd be back to strict NSNG®. Anna also puts some holiday LIL. Her family has a tradition of tamales on Christmas Eve. It's good to avoid talking about diet mentality for one meal. Simply put, it's easier to just eat and enjoy for one meal. However, if you feel you can't do LIL without spinning out of control, stick to your guns. MARKETING SUGAR Part of why people get so out of control over the holidays is the marketing. We've turned something that should be about two days of really indulging (Thanksgiving and Christmas), and made it over a month. For the first 10 years, he was clueless about diet and the like, but since, he's educated himself and is now a leading expert in nutrition and diet and the like. DOCTORS AND HEALING Doctors are using medications to stop fires. For many doctors, it's hard to realize just giving medication is not the right course of action. It must be more holistic. Dr. Gerber struggled with weight issues, and tried dietary modifications. He saw LCHF worked for a patient, then did his studies and homework. Once he tried it for himself and had success, he expanded it for his patients. Non-doctors were the ones who ID'd sat fats creating cholesterol as the problem. A relatively new paper in Lancet challenges Ancel Keys's 7 Country Study. This is the real science. People trust their doctors -- but sometimes, people need to be more investigative, and not just accept one answer -- listen to many experts, like Dr. Gerber! INSULIN RESISTANCE .HDL and triglyceride ratio is a marker for insulin This will go down if you eat LCHF most of the time because your metabolic issues will lessen. LDL not the problem, your ratio is a bigger issue. The ratio also demonstrates your insulin resistance which is the indicator of risk for bad health including cardiac health. His brother was losing weight and Corey asked how he was doing it. In 2019, it really took hold for Corey. He saw a photo of himself and it occurred to him he didn't look good.
