Giving Up Addiction

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast with Vinnie Tortorich, where Vinnie answers listeners' questions. Today, Vinnie talks to Chris Wood from Kansas, and they discuss giving up cigarette addiction, and addiction in general. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club TOBACCO Vinnie used to have a tobacco habit -- when he was a kid He saw the pros and the older kids chewing tobacco, so he tried it Chris had a smoking addiction CHRIS'S STORY Chris is come-and-go with the podcast, but recently has caught up The "how to stop smoking" podcast really resonated with him Prior, Chris would quit but then it would come back -- the urge will always be there but it is not giving in to the urge that matters Chris never smoked around his daughter -- always has wanted to set a good example ON QUITTING He made sure he had done all of his chores, etc. He cleared his social calendar so he wouldn't have to worry about that His fiancee was supportive A little bit fidgety, but no headaches or anything like that It is a mindset As soon as you smoke one cigarette, it is a slippery slope so there are no "cheat days" Avoid those who are doing it so that you don't feel pressured Chris checks in with Vinnie every week to stay in check ALCOHOLISM Neither Chris nor Vinnie has not experienced this, but Vinnie talks about it Alcoholism is a disease and can truly ruin lives Hard to white-knuckle -- programs can save people's lives

Drug Production and Ketosis with Sigi Caron

Welcome to the Friday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast with Vinnie Tortorich. Today, Vinnie goes one on one with Sigi Caron and they discuss medical research and drug production, and living in ketosis. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Squatty Potty WHO IS SIGI? She works in clinical research and drug development Regenerative medicine Vinnie trains both Sigi and her husband, who are both in incredible shape! She and her family are on a ketogenic diet because they researched it and decided it was a healthy choice WHAT DOES SHE DO? Someone will come to her with a drug / technological idea She works with one person / small company at a time Comes in from the beginning or just jumps in at the end Engineers and doctors on her team COST / MEANS OF PRODUCTION Producing these drugs justifies their price tags So many studies and time put into this Animal studies are expensive and take time Regulations require animal testing People are often ignorant of the process Only 1/15 drugs generally make it 100mil+ invested into each drug generally STATENS Sigi's husband was on statens, but was taken off of them and is now healthier than ever Statens can cause muscles to bunch up Negative side effects Statens were "good" when we were afraid of cholesterol Now that we realize cholesterol isn't 'glue in our arteries', statens have little to no relevance anymore Bro-Science just like the need for everyone to drink 8 glasses of water today NUTRITION Sigi's family used to think that low-fat, whole grain, and low-meat diet was healthiest After doing a lot of cardiovascular research, she saw that patients who ate toast had giant glucose spikes She talked to a doctor who worked on the food pyramid -- he walked out because he did not believe that grain was good Transitioned into fully ketogenic diet after learning this Such a diet helped her husband qualify for Boston marathon and run a 3:25 Not eating grains can rid elephantiasis from The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living Difficult to go NSNG if family is not supportive Must be careful of eating enough in ketosis She will eat ~3000 calories a day but that's okay due to low carbs and exercise

The Dangers of Silica

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of The Angriest Trainer with Vinnie Tortorich and Andy Schreiber. Today, Vinnie and Andy discuss the harmful nature of silica (sand). PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club YOUTUBE CHANNEL People have watched our sand video on Facebook We are starting up a Youtube channel, so look for that in the near future! Vinnie did not actually eat the sand in the sand video... intentionally SILICA Sand is mostly silica, but silica itself is purer than sand Silicon dioxide -- looks like crystally white sand Little packets you find in bottles and packages to keep contents dry that say "DO NOT INGEST" contain silica Confusion comes from some products marketing silica as a health supplement There is absolutely NO evidence it does anything beneficial, but PLENTY of evidence it is harmful Depletes / Blocks absorption of thiamin (B vitamin) Hurts digestion NEW PRODUCT FROM PVC New product is currently being researched and looking to be manufactured to our standards Other products that are comparable actually BOAST high silica content Very close to releasing this new one

Vitamins, Fat, and Body Image

Welcome to the Monday edition of The Angriest Trainer podcast with Vinnie Tortorich and co-host Anna Vocino. Today, Vinnie and Anna talk titanium dioxide, Whole Foods, juice and Coke, Vinnie's eating, and media portrayal of positive body image. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club Villa Cappelli Olive Oil TITANIUM DIOXIDE Nano-particles are very bad for you ANY sunscreen with TiO2 should not be applied to skin Use sunscreen with Zinc Oxide instead Titanium Dioxide is still found in 'natural' sunscreen, so still be careful Any vitamin with this in it should not be ingested: lack of TiO2 is part of what makes PVC vitamins so great WHOLE FOODS Vinnie only shops at Whole Foods for a specific coffee Serena went to the ready made food section-- every single pre-pepared dish had sugar in it They at least try to be clear about where there products are from, etc etc Vinnie believes Whole Foods is just an expensive scam although Anna quite likes them JUICE ON A PLANE Flight attendant would let every passenger know that if they ordered juice, they were just drinking juice He was overly judgmental about it, but the sentiment is there Coke is bad too, but a different kind of bad Less sugar content but due to chemicals it's still horrible for your liver People are too easily offended VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY People spend too much time inside, in front of computers Rickets is actually appearing again Vitamin D is found in juice, but it doesn't compensate for the amount of sugar in these drinks (PVC can help with vitamin d deficiency) WHY VINNIE HASN'T HAD LUNCH Vinnie hasn't had time to have lunch today due to clients, vermin, etc. He ate on this day: (8am) Coffee, 2 whole eggs, table spoon of coconut oil Diets high in fat can hold you longer Not great to end the day with a giant meal BODY IMAGE Fear for women in high fat foods due to the media Serena who is so skinny occasionally calls herself fat; bad for the next generation When you hear it enough, you start to believe it Beauty pageants promote starving oneself, low fat diets, etc. Double edge sword: you need to lose weight to get healthier, but you're also okay how you are Fine line between accepting oneself and accepting being fat Some models are too thin that they look like they're dying Tweet us: how does the media affect your body image?

Pressure to Eat Grain

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Angriest Trainer podcast with Vinnie Tortorich, where Vinnie answers listener questions. Today the listener happens to be Vinnie's very own Serena Scott Thomas, who talks about the societal pressure to eat grains and the ignorance of those who believe fat is worse than sugar. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Pure Vitamin Club WHY SERENA IS PISSED Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf always asks if she wants a bagel or pastry When asked not to ask anymore, the staff replied that it is company policy Frustrating due to waste of time and also the fact that Serena is allergic to grains HOW IT SHOULD BE It should be like bartenders; "would you like something to drink?" instead of "would you like vodka with that?" There should not be added temptation KIND BARS Government says "Kind" bars can no longer be labeled healthy; but for the wrong reason Not due to excess amount of sugar which is why it truly should be unhealthy, due to the amount of saturated fat within the bar Hydrogenated fat is also the issue within the bar HuffPo just makes it worse
