:Episode 564 - Listener and NSNG success story "Dr. Natascha" discusses the problem of overmedication in the U.S., what people are taught is healthy, and how to properly educate patients on what IS healthy as a doctor on this Friday edition of the Celebrity Fitness Trainer podcast. DR. NATASCHA Not including her last name, for anonymity sake An old caller -- both she and her husband have called in multiple times Originally from Germany, also plays the cello! STATINS & OVERMEDICATION Good to get a full particle panel before starting (and stopping) statins You might not need a statin A lot of doctors cannot read a particle test Triglycerides, LDLs (low -- bring sugar into your body to store), HDLs (high -- poop stuff out), VLDLs (very low) Statin can just modulate your putting 'crap' into your body If you are eating very healthily, there are few people who actually need a statin EATING "HEALTHY" FORTIFIED FOODS AND AVOIDING FATS On the box, it says that it is "fortified" iron and healthy wheat Wheat is never healthy You don't need to "fortify" a steak -- it already has iron Real food already has all of the vitamins and minerals so you do not need to eat fortified foods Creatine is made by your body already, and is also found in meat -- you don't need pills! We don't need to be concerned with obscure things like Riboflavin Never has been an issue before, so why are people making it an issue now? People want to be healthy, but they turn on the TV, and the TV says a microwavable weight watchers meal is what is best What must change is what people are taught Fat is NOT the enemy! EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT NSNG When Dr. Natascha gets new patients, she has to try to figure out whether or not she should mention NSNG Some people will not hear it She works in a hospital where the cafeteria serves high-carbs What will help people short and long term? She tries to educate those who will listen, and those who have time to try this lifestyle with some error Doctors also have guidelines and ratings Insurance or a board will look at why diabetics have high levels and no statin, even when really they should be NSNG and be even healthier A healthy patient is not a widget There are so many factors Start with sugar is bad, limit your sugar, and educate on the different types of sugar ex: fruit juice extract is still a sugar Check out Food Politics here FRUIT & OTHER SNACKS Fruit went away in the winter years ago Now because of GMOs and other methods, people eat fruit year round Dangerous in a way due to the fact that sugar is so readily available even when naturally it should not be Sugar is sugar, but still a better option than a snickers bar In the 70s, things like Wheat Thins, and Protein bars, and "Healthy" Meal Replacements did not exist People just ate real food People have a powerful wrong perception of what is healthy due to the industry

What Really Causes Obesity with Dr. Jason Fung

The two discuss leptin, cholesterol and heart disease, and cortisol and insulin in relation to obesity on this Friday edition of the Celebrity Fitness Trainer podcast. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS Villa Cappelli Pure Vitamin Club Squatty Potty HEART DISEASE & CHOLESTEROL Listener Todd Had serum cholesterol go up, but triglycerides go way down from high fat diet If you eat cholesterol it DOES NOT make your cholesterol go up Eating fat DOES NOT turn into increase in cholesterol If you eat a high fat diet, both bad AND good cholesterol goes up, but triglycerides go down, so it ends up being neutral Cholesterol does not equal heart disease THE OBESITY CODE Dr. Jason Fung's new book It is about what really makes people fat How did we all decide at the same time that we would all eat more? We DIDN'T, therefore CALORIES are NOT what is causing obesity!!! We are programmed NOT to eat too many calories (Leptin) If calories were the issue, then restricting calories would not make you feel bad and would allow you to shed the weight That is not true You have to figure out what is adjusting your own personal 'thermostat', and bring it down Cortisol levels skyrocketing (due to stress, sleep deprivation, etc) can help obesity along If stress and sleep deprivation is what is causing it, you have to change your lifestyle because diet won't work if that is the case Obesity is not a caloric imbalance, it is a hormonal imbalance Both with insulin and with cortisol (two big factors) Beer belly type fat is usually cortisol, where overall fatness is usually insulin HUGE role with metabolizing glucose Obesity is a multifactorial disease Lypodystrophy Super rare condition that causes dystrophy (breakdown) of adipose tissue LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS When you address proximate cause, it does nothing, must treat the ACTUAL cause When you reduce your calories, you have to burn more than you lose to burn fat, you can't just address the proximate cause which is reducing the calories

Admitted on the Carolla show that she: dropped out of CSUN after 1 semester, became a fitness trainer online because she had a good body from karate Vinnie's lawyer went online to see how long it would take to become a lawyer -- took about 30 mins She tried to get Villa Cappelli as a sponsor after we had them as a sponsor, they refused because they would have lost Vinnie and they believe in REAL health and fitness She got onto the Carolla show a week after Vinnie was on BEING A TRAINER Lots of people got these cheap, not very legitimate training degrees because they thought become a trainer would be easy and make you rich Certainly not the case Basically costs $600 to become a trainer Vinnie actually has a college degree in this, unlike most other trainers (especially gym trainers) Vinnie now has a segment on Adam's big show "Fit or Bullshit" RU EL When he was a kid, would drink Fanta Grape Soda Vinnie drank Dr. Pepper and Anna Coca Cola Never really in the house for Vinnie From Guam (of Filipino heritage) Not Vinnie's "Guam" Has his own podcast: "Ru El's Running podcast" Talks about how NSNG has helped his body tremendously Level of excitement that comes with this lifestyle positively affecting everything so much Has somewhat of a technical background so he could figure out podcasting pretty easily

Life Into Living Without a Cheat Day
Calie Durant joins Vinnie Tortorich to discuss staying with NSNG, and how one's weight can change over the years on the Saturday listener edition of the Celebrity Fitness Trainer podcast. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club CALIE She is nearly 40, 5'6", around 140 lbs This is the heaviest she has been in her life Until 5 or 6 years ago, she could eat whatever she wanted without worrying Used to eat bagels, sandwiches, pasta, white flour, chocolate Now that she is on NSNG, she has eggs and spinach for breakfast, salad for lunch, dinner is some type of veg & protein She thinks it is hard to stick to this diet so strictly Life happens and it makes it hard! Vinnie doesn't want this to be super extreme That being said, allowing "cheat days" is not the way to go You can put LIL occasionally, but not have a whole day of doing whatever you want Try to have 21 or so stricter days, to get your body on this lifestyle so that when you do put LIL, your body can handle it better The first 3 weeks are hard and you have to want it It really does get easier, though Cut out her normal wine or beer for a spirit instead for 21 days -- that will make a difference Her cravings for chocolate started to disappear! You can't keep going back and forth on NSNG -- must impede the progress in the negative direction You can't get "a little bit pregnant", same type of deal!
