Fitness for Older Men
: Episode 663 - Andy and Vinnie talk about fitness for older men, the over 50 crowd... PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club JANIS JOPLIN Vinnie and Andy don't often share music tastes, or really many tastes in general However, they both love Janis Joplin In the 27 club with Jim Morrison whom Andy loves, but Vinnie doesn't also with Stevie Ray Vaughan of whom Vinnie is a huge fan Both think she is raw and honest and wonderful FITNESS FOR OLDER MEN Listener Mark asked about fitness for men 50 and above He maintains a very low body fat %, but sometimes finds he works out as a 25 year old and is sore the next day What is an appropriate fitness regiment for older men? When you get older, you have to warm into the harder workouts and heavier weights For weightlifting, Vinnie (age 53) has to be careful regarding his back When he does leg presses and squats, he will start by warming up for 15 minutes on a rower Then he will stretch for 15-30 minutes depending on how tight or sore he is Then he will start with very light squats and work his way up Will deadlift after he is warmed up with squats Key is ramping up very slowly Allow yourself more time for your workout as you get older for more warming and stretching You can go as heavy as you want, but only if you build up to it If you are extra sore, take it easy for a day! Vinnie has to take it easy for his rehabbing shoulder as far as upper-body workouts go He tells his older clients to start low and warm for upper-body workouts When it comes to aerobic activity, aerobic capacity can remain very high for a long time even if your max isn't what it used to be Know yourself, prepare, and do not rush! Same for Andy and his hiking Same for most people If Andy brings water, goes slow, and brings some NSNG salty snacks with shoes that are a bit more roomy, he is good to go indeterminately

Losing Inches But Not Weight/Pounds

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club KRISTI STELLE Found Vinnie on Mark in the Morning with Gina Grad Followed Gina's progress and looked into NSNG Read Vinnie's book, Fitness Confidential, and found it made sense and began NSNG Started just about a month ago Suffered a bad concussion back in April, was told to cut out sugar and caffeine Started eating meat when she started NSNG Loves reading about nutrition but has trouble with convoluting information Wants to lose about 25 lbs LOSING INCHES Kristi has lost some girth both in her waist and arms Her seat belts are a little looser Hasn't lost a pound Body has not been used to some of these nutrients due to veganism Her body is likely grabbing at the nutrients it is newly receiving She also definitely feels less hungry in general eating this way She is eating about 400-600 more calories a day, and not gaining weight, but losing inches This is a win!!! Keep on it and lbs will start to come off Be happy with the results you have at first, even if they are not immediately weight loss Feeling better and eating more without gaining weight is a win Vinnie advises Kristi to cut back slightly on the fat, add a bit more proteins and such and the weight will come off

In the movie, the watrer fountains spew gatorade Nobody drinks water Sugary takes over, which is happening in real life too Similar to questions Vinnie gets on Twitter People always asking what they can drink DRINK WATER, PEOPLE! People more and more are relying on sugary drinks instead of water Andy did drink lots of sugary drinks when he was young, but Vinnie only had them as a treat (Coke) The Coke sat hidden outside on the porch, his family did not have soda in the main fridge, nor did Andy's although he drank them more Coke in Vinnie's house was largely there for company Vinnie would only get a Coke on special celebrations or at the barber shop Vinnie was more interesting in watching the Coke come out of the vending machine In Vinnie's world there is tea, coffee, water, and soda water, and whiskey or scotch You don't need sugar in coffee -- eat NSNG and your coffee will start tasking sweeter! Andy used to be addicted to soda and used to ALWAYS put artificial sweeteners in his coffee When he gave it all up, he did not like the taste NOW on NSNG he likes it so much more without the chemicals and can really taste the good flavor of the coffee Starbucks is selling poison and tries to hide sugar wherever they can in their drinks Careful when you order that they aren't sneaking sugar

Literally saying you can eat donuts and as long as you stay in your range its okay They don't know the difference between calories and macros The website said Anna should have 52% protein and 59% fat and -11g carbs WHAT??? Also how does this make sense with anything they just said about donuts? SOME 101 We have old 101 podcasts if you subscribe Additionally, if you book a call with Vinnie he can help you further! Grelin, leptin, insulin are what controls your weight and are controlled by the amount of carbs you eat When we eat sugar and grains, our bodies release different levels grelin and leptin and insulin Grelin - the hormone that causes you to want to eat The levels of this actually INCREASE when you eat high carbs Leptin - the hormone that tells your body you are full "safety hormone" Keeps your hunger in check Eating carbs messes with this Insulin messes with the sugar levels in your blood and muscles, and we get all the insulin we need from veggies and such Unless, of course, you have an insulin issue

Lap-Band Failure
: Episode 653 - Listener and NSNG follower York joins Vinnie today to discuss lap-band failure and how NSNG is changing his life. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSOR Pure Vitamin Club YORK York is his middle name His first name is Lawrence and his dad is Larry, so he has always been referred to by his middle name He is more a reader and a tweeter Looking for a lifestyle that didn't have to do with looking ingredients up in a book or calorie counting He liked the simplicity of NSNG He is 11 days in and his energy and sleep has improved greatly He noticed a huge change in his palette too, and has stopped smoking Fortunately, smoking culture has changed and people smoke significantly less or less in public now From the South LAP-BAND FAILURE York's heaviest weight was 345 Right now he is 315 This is the first time in his life that he has not calorie counted or drank shakes, etc. Many of Vinnie's callers have had this surgery Sure, you can't eat because your stomach is significantly smaller, but then you aren't getting nutrients Other problems include reflux issues and much more York had his filled up with so much fluid that he woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air Now he doesn't have fluid, but it's still hard sometimes to digest things and get them through It also restricts what type of food you can eat and when you can eat, which if you decide to eat like NSNG, can be very difficult He feels very liberated doing NSNG now He is going to try to get on a food preparation schedule because when one goes to restaurants there are always hidden and naughty ingredients That being said, NSNG is SO worth it and York loves it
