What happened to me in hospital?
This weeks' episode is a little bit different. I asked what my Instagram follows wanted me to answer and well it turns out you wanted to know why I was so sick when I started high school. Just a warning before we get started this week, this one is a bit of a heavy episode. So if you have little ears around or you're not feeling up to an emotional story this week, I completely understand. But if you are, I hope you enjoy the episode. What do you think of disability sport?
Well, my experience and perspective of disability sport may course some disagreement. I have never felt comfortable in the idea of participating in disability sport. It's not because I'm lazy (while maybe a little bit) it has many more serious reasons. Clothing, fashion and disability
For some unknown reason, many people with disabilities are dressed the same. A uniform of tracksuit pants, a hoodie and black. Always black. As someone who also has a disability, fashion and how I present myself is fundamental to my identity. Find out why and also discover how I think the fashion industry could be more inclusive. Also, I recommend someone on Instagram that inspires me in what I choose to wear. @fashionbellee is a must follow Watch the live I did with Jessie the stylist You can ask Peta a question via: The website: www.icantstandpodcast.com Email: icantstandpodcast@gmail.com You can follow Peta's personal account on Instagram @petahooke Episode transcript See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How do you overcome negative comments about disabilities?
When you have a disability you know what people think of you. Even if the person is trying to be nice it is clear when they don't believe the positive spin they are trying to express. I mean it's not really a compliment when they say "but you have a pretty face" is it? So how do I deal with other people's negativity towards my disability? [Apologies for my voice this week. "Peta will not be able to write her name"
That sentence said in 1993 followed and shaped me for the rest of my life. Constantly put in front of medical professionals telling my parents what my future potential was when I was still just a toddler. How would you overcome that lack of belief in your abilities from the time you were 3? For me, it has everything to do with learning to draw hearts and an occupational therapist named Jenny. The one thing I wish I could change
The one thing I love more than anything is to travel. Travel is my true love and passion. Having a holiday is supposed to be relaxing and fun. Not for many who have a disability. A recent trip to Noosa for a wedding was easy for everyone else to attend but for me, it is a little more complicated. Why public transport is a nightmare when you have a disability.
This week Peta discusses the many barriers she experiences when using public transport. When personal safety cannot be promised, it is easy to understand why Peta chooses to get around based on how she is likely to be treated while on public transport. She also opens up talking about a birthday where she was left on a corner on a cold and raining night alone.
