The Perniciousness of Identity Formation
Pious people who are full of fear are driven to do some time unspeakable things in order to escape what they believe to be the hell that is awaiting them. Psychologists would suggest that there was something quite pernicious in play here, something like what they call like weak identity formation. I can remember as a 19 year old 20, my God, I must have been an insufferable asshole. In fact, I probably still am. Both, both you and I don't know how people put up with me,. But I can imagine secretly sort of assuming that I had to be either the devil or the Messiah.
