The US-China Relationship From the 1990s Onwards
The relationship from the 1990s on it always had tensions and there were always worries about the rise of China. It really didn't reach the obvious level of full-on rivalry until the early 2010s when we saw under Obama the 2012 pivot to Asia policy focused on boosting US Navy presence in South China Sea. The key change that ushered in this massive shift was that US corporations that had previously protected the US-China relationship from criticism began to sour on China.
