The Importance of Feel in Game Design
I would encourage aspiring game developers to really kind of try to balance by like the geography of the level. Make things as overpowered as you can, because then they feel different and exciting in a way that you want to tell a story about it. I've probably spent 10 times more time just like playing with different colors than I did like coding the actual color rendering system. The idea of designing basically what at the time I was calling hero items, I think is really similar in a spelunky and also in dungeon run does a very similar thing. And so much of a roguelike is about recognizing the components and understanding how all the components work together being able to make choices from your body
