David Frum: Praise is destructive towards what the intrinsic value of learning is. He says that when kids are trying to get better grades, they tend to become less excited about whatever they're learning. Research shows rewards make people less likely to remain interested in whatever they had to do to get the reward or avoid the punishment,. They're both ways of doing things to people, rather than working with them.
