The Dopamine Hit
We are like arid desert plants when it comes to dopamine and we're designed to capture it where we can. The higher the sugar and fat content of a food, particularly that combination, the bigger the spike in dopamine you're going to get. Drugs give us a huge dopamine hit. We start to become desensitized in our dopamine pathways and we need more and more. When we really head down that pathway and we have this kind of dopamine seeking behavior towards one particular activity, we lose the joy in many other activities such as learning or socializing.
