How to Reduce Uncomfortable Things
We need strategies to help us feel less uncomfortable about whatever it is we have to do. But by not doing the scary thing, we opt into an enduring, low-key dissatisfaction that builds up and doesn't go away. It might not even have occurred to you that you don't need to feel uncomfortable about these things. There are two risks I want to mention. One is the risk that by telling ourselves that we don’t need to feel so uncomfortable about doing the uncomfortable thing, we move from doing something gentle and encouraging for ourselves into doing something toxic and judgmental.
