Napoleon inherited a system of conscription which dated to 17 98. Every year people weree drawn into the army, they're called classes,. each year. And so his battles became the carnate increase he began, they became real slugging matches. The other reason was logistics, in organization. Napoleon enlarged this and made this really big with his corps system.
