How Much Nitrate Do You Need in Your Diet?

nitrate is a prebiotic for these strains of a facultative anaerobic bacteria that produce ultimately higher nitric oxide levels. You need at least 300 to 400 milligrams per day per serving to see any appreciable effect on blood pressure or to improve exercise performance. It takes about 90 minutes for nitrate to be converted into nitric oxide in the human body, so it has to be taken up in the gut and concentrated in our salivary glands.
