How to Balance Roguelikes

Brogue's strength system is basically like an elastic like an elastic constraint. You can't wield it right away because it'll have too much of a negative from the strength deficit. As you get strength potions which are generated throughout the dungeon and kind of a rubber banded fashion so that they're kind of fair between runs then the item gets progressively more and more powerful as you reach its strength requirement. Then you can also dedicate limited resources specifically to that item to lower its strength requirements specifically and then you can use it much sooner but at the cost of not kind of boosting other items that you found along the way.
